Article title

John Edwards has a similar article with a similar title. Can there be improvement on the title name? User F203 (talk) 20:05, 25 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Gina Smith's role

[edit]

This page is starting to become more detailed than the Mark Sanford article. This is good. Some of the chronology of the event is suited for this article but might be overly detailed and have undue weight issues if included in the Mark Sanford article.

One of many examples would be the saga of how the reporter caught Sanford at the airport. In the life of things, this is a minor detail. However, in the context of an affair article, this is relevant detail. User F203 (talk) 15:02, 26 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No mystery there: The paper the reporter worked for had the emails about his mistress in Argentina, so when the Guv went AWOL, the paper sent a a reporter to the airport to meet flights in from Argentina. 190.31.5.9 (talk) 09:59, 17 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Maria Belen Chapur's ex-lover stated to be source

[edit]

This afternoon there are a number of news stories stating that a "young Angentine man" who was Chapur's other lover saw email between Chapur and Sanford and that he was the one who hacked her email account and leaked the love-letter emails to the "State" newspaper. Reports state that Chapur broke up with him over this.

I also found a smaller number of unverified reports indicating that this spurned lover of Chapur's may also have been the person who placed the anonymous call that enabled the reporter Gina Smith to meet Sanford at the airport upon his return from Argentina.

I note this information here so that it may be sifted for reliability at a later time. cat yronwode, not logged in 24.6.135.111 (talk) 23:28, 28 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Suggest Deletion of Article

[edit]

I don't think this article belongs in any encyclopedia. It is tabloid news. If you put this here, you will have no end of possible articles out of the newspaper each day. I say delete it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.169.201.107 (talk) 04:39, 10 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Why Prior?

[edit]

The use of prior in the opening, as in "Eight years prior to 2009" and "one year prior to 2009", is unnecessary and convoluted. Just say the date or year instead. Generalhoneypot (talk) 11:43, 29 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I think people were afraid of original research. If the source said 8 years.... User F203 (talk)

Then there's the Impeachment question

[edit]

According to the State, the impeachment committee has thown out 28 of 37 charges against Sanford, which means that they still might get him on the other nine. Ericl (talk) 00:28, 4 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Putting the actual dates in the opening

[edit]

In the opening paragraph it says something along the lines of "for six days in June" and the dates aren't given until the "Disappearance" section. I think the specific days should be included in the lede somewhere, as that's literally why I came to the article and probably at least several others. Given that the six days line is the beginning of both of the paragraphs in the lede, I'm just going to change the first few words of the article to "From June 18 until June 24, 2009". This probably didn't need a talk entry.

Titles

[edit]

I don't really like "and extramarital affair" in the title, on BLP reasons. Yes, I know he admitted it, but still. How about... "Temporary disappearance of Mark Sanford" ? DS (talk) 03:44, 20 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I'd be OK with this title change, but I'm open to other suggestions. I JethroBT drop me a line 04:31, 20 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
It's been nine days. If there are no objections, I'll implement the change tomorrow. DS (talk) 13:45, 2 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
