Surname (& Irish connection)
[edit]Just watching this guy on Newsnight at the moment and I'm wondering where did he get the surname from? Also, what's the background to his connection with a Fianna Fáil TD? 79.97.154.238 (talk) 21:58, 26 October 2012 (UTC)
In the last few minutes, Mark Reckless just defected to UKIP at their 2014 conference, awaiting an update to the Sky News webpage for the reference. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.20.7.194 (talk) 13:48, 27 September 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for the update. wp:Suggested sources are usually fairly quick but our objective is accurate and enduring information -see WP:NOTNEWS so the fact you didn't get back didn't matter too much. Regards JRPG (talk) 20:56, 27 September 2014 (UTC)
Use of the Daily Mail
[edit]According to WP:Suggested_sources#Current_news one should "generally avoid British tabloids such as the Daily Mail, Daily Express, The Mirror and The Sun." According to WP:BLPSOURCES, Material should not be added to an article when the only sourcing is tabloid journalism. When material is both verifiable and noteworthy, it will have appeared in more reliable sources. I intend to remove unsupported Daily Mail material. JRPG (talk) 18:38, 27 September 2014 (UTC)
'Member of Parliament for Rochester and Strood'
[edit]See the pages for Reckless' two predecessors as MPs for that constituency/its predecessors - Bob Marshall-Andrews and Peggy Fenner. They are both described as above, even though neither of them is still an MP. I therefore propose to show Reckless as above. Alekksandr (talk) 21:41, 23 October 2014 (UTC)
' ... graduating with the degree of MA (Upper Second)'
[edit]Eh? At Oxford and Cambridge the MA simply indicates 'standing' - i.e. having completed a given number of terms from matriculation (and paying for and going through a ceremony), and it is unclassified. It's not an academic qualification. So presumably what this person got was a BA (Upper Second). Norvo (talk) 23:13, 21 November 2014 (UTC)
"Preceded by: Himself"
[edit]This article states the subjects' predecessor is "himself." That is not possible, and doesn't meet the standards of an encyclopedia. He either has a predecessor other than himself, or it should say "None" or "In office since the creation of the seat."— Preceding unsigned comment added by JackD523 (talk • contribs) 14:43, 23 November 2014 (UTC)

Personal connections to Wales?
[edit]Readers may be intrigued how he came to be a member of the Welsh Senedd without apparently having Welsh family connections or living in Wales? His official website (infobox) only mentions his official constituency office being in Pontypool. Please add if you have reliable sourced info.Cloptonson (talk) 13:12, 22 October 2021 (UTC)
