Move

[edit]

Since this article was essentially a wiktionary article with some disambiguation and notes on maritime nations, I moved most of the information to the disambiguation page and moved this page to Maritime Nation -Âme Errante 06:10, 30 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wiktionary Article?

[edit]

Would this be better as a wiktionary article?

No, it belongs here. It would be interesting to compare nations which have traditionally had a very close relationship with the sea (for example Holland and Portugal) to nations that have seen their interests as lying more inland (contrast overseas colonial empires with the German and Russian empires which, in the main, were contiguous continental ones despite the fact that these two nations also had access to the sea). Whether an imperial power was a maritime nation (in the cultural and political/economic sense, not just whether it had a coastline) or not, has had a different impact on a geopolitical scale to this day.

I hope someone will add to this article as it could make for an interesting one. I'm afraid I myself don't really know enough about it to do so.Jarby (talk) 16:46, 20 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
