For the record, it is known fact that Rebecca Clarke declared that she had been Stanford's first female composition pupil at the Royal College of Music, a misconception that is still being corrected. "I was the only girl student [Stanford] ever had." (Stated by Clarke in interviews conducted by Ellen D. Lerner in 1978 and 1979, reprinted in A Rebecca Clarke Reader, edited by Liane Curtis, 2005) "That I was the only woman [Stanford] had accepted was a source of great pride to me...". (Quoted in Liane Curtis "Rebecca Clarke; A Case of Identity, Musical Times, May 1996) "And I was his only girl pupil." (stated in an interview with Robert Sherman in 1976).
