Clearly he is notable- please see NYT obit article.

below list compiled by Rogers Howard

[edit]

He was a well known businessman whose self-title of Mr. Italy can be found referenced widely by others. If he really led a company which helped a million people go tour Italy then he is notable just due to the associated television advertising of the time which made him famous. Also he had a radio program where he interviewed Mario Cuomo and others. Listed as notable graduate here: https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/New_York_Law_School

I found these other articles directly about him or discussing him, in New York Times and New York Daily News, and Variety, that establish him as a notable businessman worthy of interviews by New York Times and New York Daily News:

Mario Perillo Inducted Into ASTA Hall of Fame

Honolulu, Nov. 4, 2002 – Last night, the American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA) honored Mario Perillo, chairman of Woodcliff Lake, N.J.-based Perillo Tours, with its Travel Hall of Fame Award. Announced during the opening reception of ASTA’s 72nd World Travel Congress at the Waikiki Shell in Honolulu, the award is the highest honor that ASTA presents.

ASTA’s Travel Hall of Fame Award was established in 1971 during the 41st World Travel Congress in Sydney, Australia. Its purpose is to recognize and honor individuals whose careers have made an enduring impact on the development and expansion of the travel and tourism industry.

“Throughout his career, Mario Perillo has passionately promoted Italy and Hawaii just as passionately as he has promoted travel agents,” said ASTA President and CEO Richard M. Copland, CTC. “He is an icon among American wholesale tour operators and is extremely well-respected by his peers and all travel agents with whom he does business.”

Mario Perillo’s father, Joseph Perillo founded the company in 1945 calling it Joseph Perillo and Sons. Although the younger Perillo did not initially join the family business—he went on instead to get his law degree from New York Law School upon returning from World War II—he decided to try his hand at the travel business when his father retired. Since that time, the company has become the world’s largest operator of escorted tours to Italy, and Perillo has earned the nickname “Mr. Italy.” In addition to Italy, Perillo Tours conducts trips to Hawai'i and such European capital cities as London, Paris and Rome.

Perillo has received numerous awards during his illustrious career, among them being named by the President of Italy as Cavalier on the Order of Merit; the Golden Lion Award, which was bestowed by former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani; the Golden Helm Award from the World Tourist Conference; and Niagara University’s Lifetime Tourism Achievement Award for developing Perillo Tours into the world’s largest operator of escorted tours to Italy.

See poem "Wormhole Theory" in here that mentions Mario Perillo by name, and this book is favorably reviewed in New Yorker here:

Objection to deletion (moved from article page)

[edit]

The following was posted on the article page. I have moved it here. Please note that since there have been objections to proposed deletion under WP:PROD, any further formal deletion proposal should be conducted under the procedures of WP:Articles for deletion. --Arxiloxos (talk) 15:03, 26 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

(removing the proposal to delete due to non-notability, but if you don't agree with me, feel free to put it back)

I hereby object to deleting this article because I went looking for who was Mario Perillo and wanted to read about him in Wikipedia, and upon finding this statement that he is not notable, I compiled various entries (see Talk page) that lead me to conclude he is highly notable despite being a business owner of a relatively little known company. However in the travel industry his is a famous name. Perhaps he became famous by running ads on TV, but a lot of people learned who he was that way and his business success was noted in NY Times, NY Daily News, etc. Please see Talk section where I added various citations. --Originally posted by RogersHoward at 06:39, 25 February 2016.
