Talk:Mario Party 8/Archive 1
what? NONE of that has been confirmed. The game has't even been mentioned yet. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 68.34.92.196 (talk • contribs) .
Why is there a talk page if the game hasn't been confirmed? --Brandon Dilbeck 03:36, 19 August 2006 (UTC)
- Mario Party 8 has NOW been confirmed by Nintendo. Search this article to find the name. Thus, the game exists, and so should the page even if it is a stub for the time being. Double Dash (Talk to me!) 20:26, 14 September 2006 (UTC)
Actually, almost everything after the first paragraph is speculation. We know it's on the Wii, so that part of the trivia is ok, but everything else? I think it should be deleted until further notice. Dang, I sound like a mean creep... -Stumper
A bunch of sites are putting up January 16, 2007 for the Mario Party 8 release date. I'm not sure where they are getting it from though. 12:10pm, 18 November 2006
Oh, yeah? I'd better look into it. Knuckles sonic8 20:32, 18 November 2006 (UTC)
Still checking it out but so far, IGN says TBA, still. Gamestats just assumes it's on the 31st of December. Where did you find it? Knuckles sonic8 14:35, 19 November 2006 (UTC)
This character confirmation stuff...
[edit]IIRC, the screen and video came from that Nintendo event. Isn't that official enough? Oh, and why delete all the confirmed characters, but leave Hammer Bro.? Hardcore gamer 48 10:26, 28 November 2006 (UTC)
Probably was an accident; reverted it back to last change where it was last seen. Knuckles sonic8 20:53, 28 November 2006 (UTC)
14th Character?
[edit]Head onto the German MP8 Site and this statement was made, and I quote [in German]:
Using a translator, this became, in English...
"Some mean, to be able to recognize on the basis the picture for the character selection (screen SHOT #14), that there the so far secret?- Characters on black background easy shades exhibit. And on the basis these shades is one these?- Characters in for instance the mass or the form have, like Mario (also the outlines of the cap are to recognize). Therefore believe some, that it itself thereby around Mario Morgana, Baby Mario or vll. also Baby Luigi to act could."
Basically, what I wanna highlight is: "Baby Mario" or "baby Luigi".
Any thoughts? Source: German MP8 site. Knuckles sonic8 04:56, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
Vandalism
[edit]Just so everyone knows, this page has become an object of vandalism quite frequently, recently (redundants?). Would anyone else but me like to take action against it? Knuckles sonic8 22:47, 1 December 2006 (UTC)
I would. I have reported all vandalism on this page to administrators. Why don't we request that it is semi-protected? Henchman 2000 19:20 4 December 2006.
Yeah, why not? I actually had that in mind. Knuckles sonic8 20:49, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
Should we ask an administrator to make it semi-protected? Henchman 2000 9:12, 5 December 2006.
I said yeah we should. Knuckles sonic8 21:18, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
Then let's do it! Should I do it, should you or should we both? Henchman 2000 19:22 6 December 2006
Be my guest; I don't know how to do it anyways. Knuckles sonic8 20:45, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
I tried, but they said that there wasn't enough vandalism. Henchman 2000 19:22 8 December 2006
Voice Actors
[edit]The article states that Shigeru Miyamoto is going to voice Birdo and Dry Bones. Is that really true? 17:40, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
It's all speculation, my friend. Removed it. Knuckles sonic8 23:45, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
Incorrect reference
[edit]'Magic Target Ride is a pun on one of the songs in the fictional movie Aladdin called "Magic Carpet Ride".'
The name of the song is "(A) Whole New World." There is a song titled "Magic Carpet Ride," but it's by the group Steppenwolf and has nothing to do with Aladdin. - 68.103.1.71 06:14, 9 December 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for the fix. Knuckles sonic8 01:53, 10 December 2006 (UTC)
I have to ask... how did you find out the names for some mini-games, Knuckles? I find it odd that Nintendo called one "Statutory Rope", seeing as its pun is something that Nintendo should be steering clear of, especially in a Mario game. Though, it's quite a clever title if you think about it... >_> Hardcore gamer 48 12:02, 10 December 2006 (UTC)
Actually, I didn't. I was wondering that myself and was gonna post a new topic regarding that. Users have been posting names regarding the mini-games without sources. I was (and , to tell you the truth, still am) wondering if this is truthful or not. People could be just making up these names, if you know what I mean. But as I wasn't sure at the time, I edited the Puns section anyways although, I didn't necessarily agree with it, necessarily. So, to answer your question, I'm just as puzzled as you are. NP Scan
[edit]Thank you to the user that found/made this scan. This should help a lot as we now know Blooper is the 2nd new character. :) Knuckles sonic8 20:43, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
Added boxart, ESRB rating.
[edit]Does anyone know who that wierd blue thing is at the bottom left?
First off, the boxart has been removed for some reason... Secondly, it looks like a game show host of some kind. Obviously seemingly a new host. Maybe he has something to do with the story. Knuckles sonic8 18:24, 26 December 2006 (UTC)
Note: Something I recently noticed but he resembles Chuck Quizno from Paper Mario... Knuckles sonic8 20:21, 26 December 2006 (UTC)
- It's not; Chuck Quizmo doesn't have feet. What's in the article can only be speculation; I'm going to remove it. --Brandon Dilbeck 02:37, 12 January 2007 (UTC)
Real boxart or not.
[edit]A few days ago added the boxart. Now many people have been deleting it and adding it again. Now I got the box from Gamefly, and if it wasn't real they have to say so, so yes, I'm 100 percent sure it's real. --Bentendo24 18:55, 27 December 2006 (UTC)
But was it actually released to the public from Nintendo? Hardcore gamer 48 05:57, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
- It hasn't. I have Press Nintendo access from my website, and they only have a blank (white) box art with the words "Mario Party 8 Temp." I'm going to remove it again. I even have proof that it is a rumor. Mario Party 8 Fansite. They say "The first rumor about the Mario Party 8 boxart has been hitting the internet. Take a look and judge for yourself if this looks plausible. We will of course only know when Nintendo reveals the boxart officially." Hence more proof that Nintendo has not said anything about it yet. -- WiiVolve 02:05, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
I'm pretty glad it's not. It's not up to par with the ones before it, in my opinion. Knuckles sonic8 23:32, 31 December 2006 (UTC)
It's now offical, leave it there. - Bentendo24
Source? Bowsy 19:39, 10 January 2007 (UTC)
Until someone tells me of a source I shall keep removing it. Bowsy 14:55, 21 January 2007 (UTC)
[1] There. Mario, Wario and the new host had their official artworks released after the boxart, so it's safe to assume it's the real deal. Hardcore gamer 48 02:07, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
- Um... wrong link, sorry. [2] Much better. Hardcore gamer 48 02:09, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
Why would you need citation about the circus theme?
[edit]You can clearly see a circus tent on the boxart, for crying out loud. Hardcore gamer 48 05:30, 14 January 2007 (UTC)
- see the previous topic; that's true, provided that's the authentic boxart, that is, which is still in question. One could fairly say that since the game is still in production and currently unreleased, that anything that is said about it is speculative at best. Gene S. Poole 01:28, 18 January 2007 (UTC)
"Minigames"
[edit]I think we should leave this section like it is until the game comes out, or whenever all of the minigames are announced. It's really not a huge problem having a short list of announced minigames, right? –Llama man 21:19, 18 January 2007 (UTC)
Of course you're right. Surely those other two should've caught on by now. Henchman 2000 18:29, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
- Wrong, it's not short... and it's certainly not going to get smaller. A paragraph or so of games in general is all that is needed. A game not being out, doesn't make it an exception. RobJ1981 20:31, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
- Okay. Then the section should be removed entirely, until the game comes out, when a paragraph summarizing the minigames could be written, like there is in the other Mario Party articles. –Llama man 21:33, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
- Well I had to remove the list once again. I'm getting tired of this. The other Mario Party articles have no lists anymore: just because 8 isn't out... doesn't make it an exception at all. RobJ1981 22:45, 22 January 2007 (UTC)
- Okay. Then the section should be removed entirely, until the game comes out, when a paragraph summarizing the minigames could be written, like there is in the other Mario Party articles. –Llama man 21:33, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
Protection
[edit]How could I tell an edit war was brewing? I could see the edit summaries. They were all "you're wrong!" "no, YOU'RE WRONG!" "i am superior tu yuo," "YOUR WRITING IS SHITCRUFT AND NO ONE CARES," etc. Of course, I don't think they got nearly that incivil, but I wasn't sensing good vibrations. It looks like there's war out there in the distance. In the meantime, I've locked the page so we can talk it out through a medium other than edit summaries. ★MESSEDROCKER★ 20:20, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
- It's only between one person (and most of the regular editors of the article). As per how the other Mario Party articles are setup: a list of mini-games isn't needed. But the one editor thinks it is, and that's basically what got the page protected. He thinks the game not being out, makes it an exception to how the article should be set up. But since why has Wikipedia became a buying guide? If people want to find out what mini-games are on it: they can check out gaming sites, not here. Wikipedia = encyclopedia, not a mini-game guide, not a buyer's guide or anything else similar. The game being out makes it absolutely no exception. A paragraph (or less) describing the mini-games in general won't harm the article. Good luck on trying to find a solution, the editor has refused to budge in any way. It was hard enough to convince him to stop reverting the other Mario Party articles. RobJ1981 21:06, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
- I'd like to see a statement from the person who keeps adding and re-adding the list. ★MESSEDROCKER★ 21:41, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
I am the one who has been re adding the list, WITH GOOD REASON!!! Protecting the page is NO WAY to resolve a dispute, what makes it worse is that you proteced RobJ's version, in which the mini games section is a worthless section which may as well not exist. What do you mean one paragraph OR LESS?? The LESS is what has started this edit war, if you had've made a paragraph like I didi with the other articles, or kindly asked me to write one, we wouldn't be in this situation!!! Oh, and what do you want in your statement? Henchman 2000 13:22, 25 January 2007 (UTC)
- Protecting the page is a way to resolve the dispute because it forces you all to talk about it rather than endlessly just revert each other... and the protecting admin always protects the wrong version.--Isotope23 17:36, 25 January 2007 (UTC)
- Interesting point -- without the list, the section is pointless. The list isn't actually that bad, since it has sources. Personally I see nothing wrong with keeping the list; perhaps someone could even clean it up and make it prose. I may volunteer my time for that. How does that sound? ★MESSEDROCKER★ 22:23, 25 January 2007 (UTC)
- It's listcruft. Mario Party is just fine without a list of mini-games (and a list article isn't needed either), as are the other Mario Party articles. If people want to know what certain games are in it: they can check gamefaqs or another gaming site. There is games like Wario Ware that don't have mass lists of mini-games, for good reason: it's listcruft and belongs on a video game wiki. In response to Henchman's post: if you hated the sentence so much, you could've made it a paragraph but you didn't. Instead you just reverted it back to how you saw fit. No one should have to notify you to make a paragraph for the article. As I've stated several times: the game not being out makes it no exception to how the other articles are set up. RobJ1981 22:42, 25 January 2007 (UTC)
Messedrocker, don't listen to what he says, I have been trying to tell him this all along and he is not prepared to open himself up to new ideas. Baisically, he says, "Lists are stupid, lame additions to articles no matter how long or short they are. I am right, everyone else is wrong no matter what." Please do go ahead with this proposal to re add the lists as he would be asking for a ban from editing Mario Party articles if he tried to mess with you, an admin. This list is perfectly reasonable content for this article and, because he is just a plain " I hate lists user." He needs to open himself up to others' opinions. I think you should go ahead, as I am not so sure how I could clean up the list. Henchman 2000 09:07, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
- I think there's a way we can all get along, here. Why don't we make SEPERATE pages altogether, to list the mini-games in the Mario Party series. Descriptions and all. Personally, I don't like the idea of all mini-games being listed in pages like Mario Party, Mario Party 2, etc., but if they are seperate from said pages, it shouldn't be clutter anymore. Everyone gets what they want. Sort of. ^_^; Hardcore gamer 48 02:18, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
- As I've stated before: a page like that would be listcruft. If people want to see a list of mini-games they can visit a video game site. Wikipedia doesn't need cruft like that. Encyclopedia, not a guide to every little feature. RobJ1981 04:06, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
Oh, don't get me wrong; I don't think the mini-game lists belong here either. It's just that it seems simpler to give the people their mini-game lists, to prevent future problems like this arising again. But, whatever. Maybe we need some more contributor's opinions on this matter. I'm hoping that the mini-games never make it back on Wikipedia, personally. Hardcore gamer 48 11:57, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
Actually. I think this is a pretty good idea, everyone has been complaining about the size of articles with mini game lists, instead, this page will give a link from each Mario Party to its respective list and there will be no reason to complain about lists in articles and we will also be giving detailed info on the game, like we should be doing. Henchman 2000 09:08, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
Henchman, you have to be collaborative and willing to work with others. Just stating that users are certain things will make people view you less as the encyclopedist you are and more like the the edit warrer you are making yourself out to be. At this rate, I wouldn't be surprised if I found you banned from editing this article. We all have to work together. Rob, you argue the list is listcruft; tell me then, through what other methods would you recommend bringing the article to completion? What if it were prose describing the games? What do we have to do to change your mind? ★MESSEDROCKER★ 22:19, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
- As I've stated above: it should be setup like the other Mario Party articles. A paragraph describing the games in general, no list. The game not being out is no exception. Why have a list now, and change it to a paragraph when the game comes out? A paragraph now, and later is how it really should be. Also as I've stated before: mini-game lists and other similar lists belong on video game wiki's, not Wikipedia: an encyclopedia, not a guide to every detail. RobJ1981 22:51, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
You would not be suprised if I got a ban, get real. I do work with others like I did with Llama man eventually. RobJ, there is nothing wrong with messedrocker's proposals, the list barely exists by the standards of other lists, it is one of the shortest lists I've seen for covering a key element. ANd I agree messedrocker, what can we possibly do to change his mind when it needs changed and stop him holding us back from doing more worthwile things on Wikipedia? Henchman 2000 14:26, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
- Holding you back? Get over it. You can edit other things, no one is forcing you to focus/edit only on this. That comment really wasn't necessary at all. RobJ1981 06:08, 29 January 2007 (UTC)
Making it acceptable for the article
[edit]I am currently reviewing the list not cut for the article, and seeing how I can make it into prose. My concern is that captionless images are cited a lot, which is not the best option because not only is there always the possibility that they are forged, but that too much is being interpreted from them. I am finding text sources that are usable, and I'll see if I can come up with some prose worthy of a Wikipedia article. ★MESSEDROCKER★ 04:11, 27 January 2007 (UTC)
- To see what I have so far, take a look at User:Messedrocker/Scratchpad#Mario Party Ocho, and feel free to edit it. Any comments? ★MESSEDROCKER★ 05:22, 27 January 2007 (UTC)
- The prose is much better. The list in question is clearly not what would be expected to be included in an encyclopaedia. This prose offers a clear concise summary, as opposed to what can be seen as listcruft, and even potentially, instruction or advertising. Prose helps this article avoid being a video game guide, which is something that Wikipedia is not. Yankees76 06:19, 27 January 2007 (UTC)
Good job, maybe you should also put some external links to screenshots of these games. Henchman 2000 14:21, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
- The general statement on the scratchpad is good, and that's what should've been done in the first place. As a note: examples of mini-games (in reference to the other Mario Party articles) aren't needed. Why should it exist? People can easily come along and change the examples at anytime. It's not neutral point of view, when examples are listed and can be easily changed (in my opinion at least). Describing some games in general: fine, but exact examples with names: not a good thing, since it can easily be changed, and changed again. As for external links: the section would be flooded, if there was a link for each screenshot for the game. RobJ1981 20:06, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
I never said a screenshot for each game, I said "Some Screenshots".Henchman 2000 09:11, 29 January 2007 (UTC)
Whenever the protectionexpires today, what should we change the mini games section to, in case your paragraph is not finished, after all, you said that the list was reliable and cited sources? Henchman 2000 09:04, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
- On the scratch pad: it clearly stated "the list which has been fought over". That's not returning: the prose (the paragraph listed above the list) is what's going on the article. RobJ1981 00:29, 1 February 2007 (UTC)
Release Date Change
[edit]While this meaningless arguement that people who want to know more about MP8 care nothing about apparently rages on, locking the page, the game has apparently been delayed an unspecified period of time. A couple of days ago. So why has nobody mentioned it? Could it be that everybody here who is arguing so passionately doesn't actually care squat about the game nor have any particular information for it? Fighting over fighting in the discussion page on an encyclopedia... there are voice chat rooms on yahoo called 'Fight Room' for this behavior. In the meantime, is there ANYBODY who knows about the release date change? From every source I've seen, its been shifted only to a hazy Q2, but people are guessing that it is to add online play, which would be worth the wait. What has anybody else heard? --12.219.32.121 20:53, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

I still haven't seen anywhere on Nintendo's site that says the release date has been changed, besides not listing it in the upcoming releases in that press release. All of the other references to it on there still say March 5th.66.231.38.171 --- I think the issue here is either:
A: They didn't list every single game coming out in the first quarter on their release.
or
B: The delay was only for a certain region. (This one seems more likely)
I'm changing the release date back to the fifth of March, virtually every site (including retail sites) I've seen says March 5. Unless someone can prove me otherwise that we're not getting it March 5, leave it be. King Gamer28 15:24, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
- Ugh. No, my dear friend, it wasn't just 'not listed' on that press release, it was listed Q2 2007. I'm afraid you had no right to change it, you know Nintendo aren't very quick with their updates (Check the 'Super Paper Mario' page on Nintendo) And now I'm going to change it back. Nothing would make me happier than to be wrong. But I'm not, check your facts. --12.219.32.51 14:39, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
- Where on that press release did it say that it was for Q2? I still haven't seen any evidence at all that it has been delayed. 66.231.38.171 22:15, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
- Try typing 'mario party 8' into google news and sorting by date. You keep changing it back. It's going to make people sad when its not out. Read the countless articles about it and weep, I'm afraid. --12.206.1.97 18:00, 6 February 2007 (UTC)
- Mario Party 8 wasn't on the list of Q1 released that Nintendo released a few weeks ago, and their press site says Q2. TJ Spyke 10:04, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

More Info
[edit]The following page [4] contains more info that sohuld be added when the protection is removed including:
Koopa's Tychoon Town [Reminds me of Windmillville from MP8; sounds cool] Bowser's Warped Vortex
Other mini-games have been OFFICIALLY confirmed but as the protection has been placed upon the page as result of all this confsuion, perhaps we should leave it out? Knuckles sonic8 02:31, 25 January 2007 (UTC)
- They should be left out. Wikipedia isn't a guide to every mini-game in a certain game. A mini-game list is better suited for a video game wiki. RobJ1981 20:19, 25 January 2007 (UTC)
Look, you are just biased against lists. Knucklessonic, once the page is unprotected, please add this info. WE should all be able to know what is coming up in this game. Henchman 2000 09:10, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
- Don't assume. I'm against listcruft. Mini-game lists = listcruft. Things that belong on a video game wiki, not here. Wikipedia isn't the guide to every little note in games (even if the game isn't out). Get your information right, before assuming. RobJ1981 18:00, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
No need to start an argument. I've already chosen not to add them. But keep in mind that other Mario Party pages have mini-game lists on them along with many other game pages similar to that (e.g., Crash Tag Team Racing). Knuckles sonic8 21:59, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
Based on this discussion, I am considering a recommendation to abandon WikiProject Nintendo, as we can not "build a comprehensive and detailed guide" if information is not allowed to be added. 65.215.162.55 03:04, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
Miis
[edit]Doesn't this game feature the use of Miis? I saw a screenshot of the game with a particular Mii. David Fei 03:49, 29 January 2007 (UTC)
Source? Otherwise, doubt it. Knuckles sonic8 01:00, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
A screenshot in the March '07 Nintendo Power shows Mii appearences. They weren't the ones playing, but they were definately in the background.
He's right. In a minigame image, a mii is walking in the background. -KG-
- Yep. There are two Miis on page 54. –Llama man 01:53, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
People have scanned excerpts from the Secret Rings section. I wanna see this picture myself; not that I don't believe you guys, I just want to see how they seem to look like, being incorporated into MP8 and all. Anyone see any scans, let me know so we can add it as a source for the page as well. Knuckles sonic8 20:13, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
- Here. Of course, this version will not be used in the article, I will upload a new version of it if it is to be included. –Llama man 21:37, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
- I went ahead, scanned again, cropped, and put the image in the article myself. –Llama man 21:57, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
Thanks! :) Knuckles sonic8 22:10, 6 February 2007 (UTC)
Ending protection
[edit]I'm assuming people agree on the prose? Would it then be okay for me to add it into the article? And if I unprotect the article, will y'all stop the bickering? —Signed, your friendly neighborhood MessedRocker. 06:45, 3 February 2007 (UTC)
