Picture
[edit]I'd hope that somebody in Marin can get a better picture for this page than the current one. The spire is an interesting feature of the Civic Center, but does not begin to really show the building as a whole. It makes it look like a skyscraper or something. - I suppose you're right. Would one of the others at commons:Marin County Civic Center be preferable? nandhp 17:34, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
- Meh, to be honest I don't much care for any of those three choices.. I wish I was in Marin and able to take some pics myself, either from the parade grounds by 101 or else in the park across the street so you can get a better sense of the building in the surrounding area. Cuffeparade 12:04, 16 December 2006 (UTC)
- I added a new pic of the civic center that I took this morning. There are a few other options if anybody thinks we could still use a better image. Cuffeparade 23:50, 30 July 2007 (UTC)
I added text on the Haley murder at the Civic Center. I'd welcome additional material or tweaks to the language, especially in terms of how to refer to Jonathan and George Jackson as I am not sure of their relationship to the Black Panthers at the time of the event. I know that there is a big file with a wealth of info and clippings on the attack in the civic center's library, although I don't know if it is digitised.. Cuffeparade 12:23, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
The only public building
[edit]This assertion, in the first half of the lead sentence, is contradicted in the Land and Living article referred to in the footnotes. I deleted the assertion, and also modified the footnote to indicate that there are more excellent photos at that site. Martin | talk • contribs 15:01, 11 May 2007 (UTC)
Controversy re: Public Safety Building, Moving Library
[edit]There are controversial plans to construct a massive 'Public Safety Building' across the street from the Civic Center, as well as moving the library out of the central dome and out of the structure. Notable, and deserves a section. Jusdafax (talk) 11:09, 6 April 2009 (UTC)
- I looked at including this, but it's apparently turned into a non-issue, and sources are poor. The first site was across Civic Center Drive from the Civic Center, in a place that Taliesin Associated Architects had designated for development. The county has apparently opted to buy and convert an existing structure for the purpose [1] at a site known as Marin Commons. It's one exit up the 101 from the Civic Center. Some ideas for moving the library out to a new site on the campus have been kicked around, but apparently funding is scarce and little has happened. Acroterion (talk) 18:30, 10 May 2012 (UTC)
