Lady Shehadie

[edit]

OK, we mention in the body of the text that she is sometimes referred to as "Lady Shehadie" but she never uses that form herself. So why is it necessary to mention it in the lede?

Is it just because her husband is a knight? I mean, if he were just ordinary Mr Nick Shehadie, would we be introducing her as "Professor Marie Bashir, Mrs Shehadie AC, CVO"? I very much doubt it. So why does the fact that her husband is knighted make any difference? It shouldn't. -- JackofOz (talk) 21:53, 3 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I concur it is a superfluous and unused title that could be mentioned in the body but is not appropriate in the lead entry. - User:Safarisuit1 —Preceding undated comment added 11:50, 4 December 2009 (UTC).[reply]

Ribbon Bars

[edit]

I have tidied up the ribbon bars section; changing to rows of 3 which is the normal arrangement for females and centering the top row. Should the Order of the Cedar be included?

That being said, while this section looks pretty, does it add any other value to the article. I would assume Professor Bashir doesn't wear ribbons very often?

--Oliver Nouther (talk) 21:24, 4 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think there's any great need for the section. At the very least, the ribbons could be smaller. -Rrius (talk) 21:53, 4 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Refer User talk:Siegfried Nugent regarding the reversion of this edit. Basically, I believe the ribbons should be displayed in an appropriate standard format or not at all.--Oliver Nouther (talk) 05:11, 11 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

National Order of the Cedar

[edit]

From what I have been able to find, the National Order of the Cedar is a five grade State order. I have not been able to find any evidence that the grades 'Grand Officer' and 'Grand Cordon' are "In this order: two separate awards" - Siegfried Nugent. It is common practice to only show the ribbon of the highest grade of an order awarded to a person and name the other grades awarded including the date of award. Nford24 (Want to have a chat?) 09:34, 2 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

It actually isn't common practice. For the purposes of a list of honours, as this is, it is relevant to list the separate honours and their grades. For example, those who are awarded the Order of Australia in both military and civil grades display both of the ribbon bars, which are distinct. So in this case. Changing the ribbon bar to be the same for both grades is incorrect as the bar differs between grades. Therefore, for the purposes of this list, they are two separate awards in the same order. Siegfried Nugent (talk) 13:01, 2 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The use of two ribbons within the Order of Australia denote the different divisions, yes I agree. However awards within the same division regardless of the changes with the ribbon would only require the highest grade (awarded to the person) ribbon to be shown in the same fashion as the recipient wearing the award. For example, a person is appointed a Knight of the Legion of Honour (France) and later advanced to Commander of the Legion of Honour, will not wear both ribbons even with the changes in the design of the ribbon. Simply mentioning the lower grade of the award Bashir received will suffice. As a Grand Cordon Bashir is no longer eligable to wear the Grand Officer insignia so that grade's ribbon is also defunct in Bashir's case. Dates of Lady Mayoress

[edit]

You say 1971-1973, but I Shehadie's page says he was Lord Mayor 1973-1975. Not sure which is correct115.70.48.249 (talk) 23:18, 5 October 2014 (UTC)Ken[reply]
