Interesting twist of the word: in Greek melatw means soft-boiled (as in soft-boiled egg) and meletw from the ancient Greek meletaw, means to study. Other words from the same family include: amelethta, meleth, melethmenos, melethros, melethtikos.

There is also the Greek surname Mela used for females or Melas for males, whose root means "black", and can be spelt as melani and means "ink" as in the Greek christian name, Melania which has been anglisized to Melanie.07:42, 29 March 2013 (UTC)
