I am taking out "and is mainly a place of residence for the families of prosperous business men of Havana. On the neighboring coast is Marianao Beach, a popular bathing resort. " - not true of present day Marianao.

Tropicana

[edit]

The article Tropicana Club states that the cabaret is located in this municipality? Can anyone confirm that? - Qyd(talk)22:03, 29 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'd be surprised that Marianao goes that far - but I am not sure where the boundaries run. I'll try to find a good map. It may be that it used to count as Marianao - not sure when the present municipios where set up. -- Beardo 06:21, 23 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Reputation

[edit]

As of 2007, the neighborhood is known for a relatively high crime rate, and has a "tough" reputation.[citation needed].

That is something that has been printed in Lonely Planet for several years (i.e. way before 2007), but I suspect it is crap. When I was there I saw that it looked about the same as a lot of other areas, and indeed Centro is a lot scarier to walk around. If someone could get reliable crime statistics for different parts of Havana, I would have to ask where they came from. The Cuban Government doesn't publish information like that. It would be good if someone could point to some reliable literature on Marianao, but I suspect that there is unlikely to be anything in English.

If you look at the Spanish language Wikipedia article for Marianao here, you don't see any mention of crime, or it having a 'tough' reputation.--121.209.163.1 13:07, 8 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
