Pioneer

[edit]

The Legacy section seems very NPOV. The thing is de Filippis was 'just' the first woman to drive in the championship; it really should be noted that the pioneering women were those who drove before the war and even in some events after. This isn't the place for it but if anything de Filippis was the last of the breed of lady privateers and Lombardi was the pioneer by being the first woman to come through during the more commercial seventies after such a long drought (when de Filippis drove it had been 11 years since Anne Cécile Rose-Itier (a redlink because she never failed to prequalify a EuroBrun, I guess! :)) drove in the Caracalla GP; Lombardi came along 15 years after de Filippis).

The 'Legacy' section makes it sound like she was the first woman to jump in a racing car, which ignores the likes of Hellé Nice simply because she was competing before the FIA organised things a bit more; it's patronising to both those who came before and to de Filippis herself. Poke around http://www.kolumbus.fi/leif.snellman/da.htm and there'll be more than you'd think; okay, not in neatly organised FIA Formula One World Championship races but certainly in Grand Prix racing (these aren't necessarily the same thing :)).
