Joseph II's coronation

[edit]

Schick did not perform at Joseph II's imperial coronation in 1790 because that event never happened. Joseph became emperor in 1765 but was never crowned. No emperor after Charles V was crowned. By late 1789 Joseph II was on his deathbed, and he died in February 1790. So what's this supposed to mean? Surtsicna (talk) 14:44, 23 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

According to the cited source (Google translation), it was actually the coronation of Leopold II, and this ceremony did take place per various sources [1] [2] [3]. Furthermore, according to our own article Coronation of the Holy Roman Emperor, later rulers simply proclaimed themselves Imperator Electus Romanorum or "Elected Emperor of the Romans" after their election and coronation as German king, without the ultimate formality of an imperial coronation by the Pope in Rome. So coronations did take place, they just weren't done by the Pope. That being the case, I've removed the link to that article. howcheng {chat} 15:45, 23 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
