Names given to road

[edit]

The road names I have used in this article are from MainRoads WA. However, it is quite easy to look at Google Maps or Landgate WA and see that there are several names given to this road, none of which are Manuwarra Red Dog Highway. They are, from Karratha : Warlu Rd, Roebourne-Wittenoom Road, Bingarn Road and finally Mine Road. Just to make it clear, I do not consider Google Maps road names to be accurate in this case, since they are actually user generated content. However, the landgate names don't match the mainroads names either.

To complicate matters further, the only signs (except one which is covered below) referring to the road refer to it as State Route 142, so that's as legitimate a name as any other if all are given equal weight. By the way, the "Warlu Way" sign near Karratha doesn't count, since that is really a road route, covering well over 1000km and is for tourists tracing the path of the Warlu, a mythical serpent in Indigenous folklore.

So to avoid confusion, I'm trying to stick to Mainroads RIMS names, hence Nanutarra-Munjina Road instead of Nanutarra Road. This approach can be reviewed later on, but due to the lack of clarity on this it is probably best to wait until these sources start to actually agree with each other.

I can see this issue turning into something that gets edit warred over, page protections and such if contributors get hotheaded, so let's not go there. Please? Mako001 (talk) 03:52, 14 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
