spink-speenk-speenk-spink-spink-spink...?

[edit]

Is there a methodology to the onomatepoeia of birdsong? For instance what is the difference between 'spink' and 'speenk'? Is this even helpful information in any way? Ddddan 22:58, 28 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, it is helpful. 184.69.174.194 (talk) 01:17, 12 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Picture

[edit]

Should this be included in the article? Ruhrfisch ><>°° 03:48, 14 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for posting. I cropped it to make the bird bigger, and inserted it. I suppose the subtitle could mention that he is only pretty certain it is a mbh, but it is listed in the picture info. 184.69.174.194 (talk) 01:12, 12 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Nominate is confusing! Help!

[edit]

This section in the lead needs clarification for non-biologists.

"but all individuals from western Panama and northwards are nominate common black hawk."

My mind wants a plural "hawks", "all individuals are _____ hawks", or a better sentence to state it in layman's terms while introducing the word "nominate", which is spelled the same as the more common elective process. TX

Also, it would be helpful if an ornithologist could weigh in on what the defining difference is that makes it a subspecies. Is it just range, or is there morphology involved. 184.69.174.194 (talk) 00:24, 12 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
