Does this article meet the notability criteria?

[edit]

Seems a bit WP:ONEEVENTy. 178.91.253.105 (talk) 00:41, 29 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Rename

[edit]

Hi ! His name is Mamoudou Gassama, not Mamadou. See Le Figaro for instance. Léna (talk) 07:57, 29 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Have corrected the article name. Thanks. Martinevans123 (talk) 08:43, 29 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Notable

[edit]

Definitely notable enough: this has been in the news by major news outlets around the world, the man received personal congratulatory meeting with the French President for his actions - moreso; he will be granted citizenship by the President, which French President very rarely grants (that is, a person being granted citizenship by the President as is in his power - very rare - as opposed to receiving citizenship by common juridical pattern). --Kurt Leyman (talk) 16:08, 29 May 2018 (UTC) Agree it is notable, it is still being talked about, even to the point that "The Shovel" an Australian humor site makes jokes about it in the context of Australia's challenging immigration environment [1]. What's more, as the article points out, this is placed in a broader context of heroic immigrants being honored in France at the highest level. The dispute seems to be that Wikipedia's biography "notability" guidelines seek to exclude biographies of people who are famous for only a single notable event (even this is arguably not applicable here). However such a criteria would mean that biographies of individuals who's single event made them famous could not appear even though such biographies are important to understand the context of broader more significant trends, as is the case here. They are called guidelines not rules for a reason - and I'd personally favor the guidelines relaxing this criteria. Most famous people are really only famous for a single main thing. I agree the article is notable enough. Carol (Talk) 21:09, 30 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
