Mal du siècle and Boredom are not synonymous

[edit]

I'm unsure why it has been proposed that mal du siècle and boredom be merged. Mal du siècle is quite specific, historically and nationally speaking, in terms of literaure and culture. It was a major theme of the Romantic movement in literature, particularly in France and England. Perhaps it was because the mal du siècle page needed significant updating; it should no longer fall into the scope of only Psychology (if it should fall into that scope at all!). The quote is messed up

[edit]

It looks like this quote has Chateaubriand is talking about himself and Rene in third person. Surely, it is from the introduction to his text by a translator or editor, or something like that?74.232.112.250 (talk) 18:17, 4 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
