[edit]

yes, this article should replace the overtly promotional page Makaha Sons. They both refer to the exact same musical organization, and this one is factual and unbiased. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rgreed (talkcontribs) 19:04, 14 April 2008

Old comment on the two article names

[edit]

The Makaha Sons page should not be merged with the Makaha Sons of Ni'ihau page because they are a separate trio than the original Makaha Sons of Niihau. Moon, John and Jerome make up the very successful "Makaha Sons" and pay tribute to the original band that they were a part of with Israel Kamakawiwo'ole before he went solo. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.90.252.108 (talkcontribs) 23:19, 23 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Kamakawiwoʻole brothers

[edit]

Since the Kamakawiwoʻole brothers were part of the band, shouldn't the article mention them more prominently and provide a link to Israel Kamakawiwoʻole at least? Also, Kona is on the island of Hawai'i, not O'ahu.— Parsa (talk) 03:53, 8 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Kona means the lee side of an island, as opposed to the windward side. All of the islands have a kona side. Awien (talk) 17:00, 11 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Makaha Sons of Ni'ihauMakaha Sons

  • The band has shortened its name, but a page already exists there. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Awien (talkcontribs)
  • The problem is that since Feb. 2008 we are still waiting for a merge of the old content from Makaha Sons into the article at Makaha Sons of Ni'ihau. My proposal would be that someone should try to merge the content into the latter article, then we can swap the names with the latter becoming a redirect to the former, since the surviving group that is carrying on the tradition is called Makaha Sons. The old content that needs merging can be seen here. I suppose the old content is promotional and not well-referenced so maybe we should just get rid of it. EdJohnston (talk) 03:24, 13 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thanks for your response. Simply getting rid of Makaha Sons sounds good to me. It is very promotional and very closely based on just one source, the group's own website, not to mention out of date. However, if others feel strongly about merging, I don't want to get into a big fight over it. But anyway, supposing we do delete the old Makaha Sons, the new one should should be spelled with the kahakō, Mākaha Sons. Aloha, Awien (talk) 12:31, 13 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • OK, why not do this move to Mākaha Sons and leave Makaha Sons (without the accent) as a redirect to the same place. That way the old text in the latter's history is not deleted. Since there are no objections to this move after a week, I might almost close this myself, but let's wait a little to see if another admin will do it.
