A plea
[edit]Please don't write your personal opinion on Wikipedia. Write the facts and site the references. Thanks.
Puri
[edit]Isn't puri made from whole wheat flour? This article doesn't mention whole wheat at all. What are the facts? Badagnani 01:57, 7 August 2007 (UTC)
Puri (poori) and chappathi are prapared with whole wheat - not maida —Preceding unsigned comment added by Phisatho (talk • contribs) 18:52, 15 August 2009 (UTC)
There is no hard and fast rule that puri has to be made from maida. Some may make using maida while others mix maida with whole wheat flour and some may use just the whole wheat flour to make puris.
Maida equals Refined Flour.
[edit]Maida is Refined wheat flour. This article can be merged with http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Flour. Also the section on Alloxan is alarming and lacks proper information. If that information is true then it has to be there on the main page on refined wheat flour. Someone needs to do more research as more and more people "believe" everything written in wikipedia is 100% scientifically correct. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 41.133.67.181 (talk) 19:27, 12 October 2011 (UTC)
- The information about alloxan is properly sourced and it is really alarming information, with respect to the damage alloxan causes to pancreas.Rayabhari (talk) 17:16, 25 January 2013 (UTC)
Controversy
[edit]I am adding a new section to discuss controversial claims made in the press and popular culture about the health effects of maida. Kindly stick to scientific fact as much as possible and, ideally, provide references from the credible academic sources.Rushil2u (talk) 13:28, 26 April 2015 (UTC)
Alloxan is not additive in maida production. It has never been used as a bleaching agent. None of the referred articles cite scientific literature. Taking this into account I am editing the article to remove the offending sections. The edit may be rolled back if and when supporting evidence is provided. See http://blogs.mcgill.ca/oss/2008/10/27/alloxan Rushil2u (talk) 08:17, 19 December 2014 (UTC)
I'm rolling back your rollback because you left it in a nonsensical state, I'm not sure what you intended but you only removed half a sentence and the result is not grammatically correct. Maybe you can try again more carefully when you're not on a phone? 111.127.58.195 (talk) 02:31, 29 January 2017 (UTC)
Remove Asia section
[edit]The Asia section is wrong, maida is not made from Tapioca, its made from wheat. And Tapioca is used in Tamil Nadu and Kerala, not andhra pradesh. I vote for the section to be deleted and rewritten entirely. Daiyusha (talk) 04:10, 28 December 2018 (UTC)
Controversy
[edit]It is not a misconception, since there is a trace amount of the substance. It being not a hazard does not make it a misconception but rather it could be said that the trace amount of it being hazardous as the misconception. 2001:DF3:CC00:91C1:F5DA:B76F:7984:F03F (talk) 15:50, 28 May 2022 (UTC)
Alloxan
[edit]I think we should get a new source for the statement that alloxan is not present in maida, as the current source is small and old and we should get a newer more reliable source. 24.132.250.178 (talk) 20:16, 29 April 2023 (UTC)
