Hey Lemurbaby, I don't know what your availability is like with your move, but I'll be glad to take this review. Comments to follow in the next 1-5 days, and I'll be glad to extend the normal hold time if needed (especially considering how long you've waited for a reviewer on this one). Thanks as always for your high-quality submissions. -- Khazar2 (talk) 17:28, 17 November 2013 (UTC)
- "Antsiranana regime" -- is this a valid different form of the name "Tsiranana"? If at all possible, it would be less confusing to say "Tsiranana" here.
- Good catch - changed to Tsiranana
- On a related note, using "government" is almost always more neutral than "regime", but if you feel "regime" is called for for both Tsiranana and his successor, I'll defer to your judgement on that.
- Changed to administration
- "a Fourth Republic under Andry Rajoelina..." It may be straining a bit to say that this Fourth Republic is still part of the backlash against the Second Republic, but again I'll defer to your judgement as someone who knows far more about this than I.
- You're right. I've changed to "Third Republic... followed by the Fourth Republic".
- "described by an Afrisson reviewer as "intellectual", " -- what's the source for this? Afrisson appears to say that the members themselves are intellectuals, but I don't see the specific statement about the lyrics.
- I'll come back to this shortly
- The source itself is a big imprecise - none of the band members are "professional" intellectuals (not published researchers or think tank members), which implies that side of them is best known through the statements in their music's lyrical content. But I'll modify it to reflect what's written (that the members are intellectuals) and see if I can pull something from the book that's more precise.
- What's the source for ""These simple themes moved the Malagasy people, because they express the deepest aspirations of a people in search of an identity... with [Mahaleo], the truth was affirmed that it is possible to be Malagasy and proud of it.""? I clicked on fn 3 but I'm not sure where to go within this website to find the quotation.
- It's under the "group" section (in French). I have numerous citations to different parts of the band's official page all clustered under the link to the site's main page. I'd have to go through and create separate citations for each subpage if you saw it was necessary to piece out the sub-page for each bit of information pulled from there. I can do it if you think it would be helpful.
- The sample File:Mahaleo - Hay Hay - super group from Madagascar.ogg is tagged as being too long to comply with non-free use requirements; this needs to be resolved.
- By one second... eesh. I'll recut it shortly
- Trimmed off the half second. ;) I also added another clip from twenty years later in their career that I think helps to show the range in the band's style
- There's not much about the band's biggest hits (albums or songs), which would normally be an important aspect of an article like this, but Mahaleo seem like they're known more for their total body of work than a few massive hits, so that's presumably all right. The discussion of the Olympia concert album sales helps a bit with this, too.
- I haven't seen discussion of particular albums or songs that were their biggest hits, but I did just get my hands on the book (ordered from France). If you're willing to give me a little time, I can scour it for info. Otherwise we could let this go for now and I will add it prior to an FA run.
- Though it seems likely to be true, the sourcing for "Mahaleo is Madagascar's most popular musical group of all time" may not be strong enough. It looks like the statement comes from promotional material for a documentary about the group, and the second source ([1]) is essentially redundant with the first (film festival summaries are generally just taken from the film's promotional materials). Is it possible to get this from a more independent source? If not, I think it's best to say something like "A 2005 documentary described them as..." Backing up, I'm also not sure the lead sentence statement "is a folk-pop band from Madagascar widely viewed as the most popular Malagasy group of all time." is quite supported yet; "widely viewed as" may be overstating it given the single source.
- All right - I'll add a few more sources shortly
- Sources added
Okay, this looks reasonably solid on first pass. You've covered the most important information, I think, with a particularly good discussion of the band's style and unique social commitment. I've got a few minor concerns above about source checks; it looks like the song sample will need to be reduced or removed as well. I'll put this on hold until you have a chance to look at my comments so far, and then I'll proceed with more source checks. Thanks again for your work on it; this was quite an interesting group to learn about. -- Khazar2 (talk) 18:40, 17 November 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for the replies above. I don't mind waiting a bit so that you can try to add a bit more on hits/songs/albums, which I think would be a good addition. The article could probably pass without it but if you can get more info out of there, it'd be a help. -- Khazar2 (talk) 15:41, 20 November 2013 (UTC)
- Okay, I'll give you a ding when I've finished making the edits. Thanks again for taking on this review! - Lemurbaby (talk) 08:59, 23 November 2013 (UTC)
- This book is excellent - lots of great material I wasn't able to find anywhere else. I may need a week or so to wrap up. Thanks for your flexibility. :) Lemurbaby (talk) 14:02, 24 November 2013 (UTC)
- No problem, take your time. I'm only half-watching right now, so just ping me when you're ready for me to take a final look. This was very close already, so I assume at that point it will be ready to pass. Thanks for expanding this excellent article still more. -- Khazar2 (talk) 14:21, 24 November 2013 (UTC)
Hey Lemurbaby, I've decided to leave Wikipedia for various reasons, so I'm going ahead and closing this early as a "pass". None of the issues remaining are enough to block it from becoming a GA. Cheers, Khazar2 (talk) 13:40, 4 December 2013 (UTC)
