Misrepresentation of sources
[edit]The BBC sources (the only english ones) refer to the investigation as "Mafia Capital" and does not link any association or group to that name. They are quite specific on that detail. They also list 100 individuals under investigation, not some 5,000 member "Mafia." I am going to leave this article to let it be developed for a bit, and to perform translations on the other sources. The claims being made in the article need to be substantiated by the sources, otherwise it will need to be deleted (again) Scr★pIronIV 19:00, 19 June 2015 (UTC)
- It was deleted just recently on the Italian Wikipedia discussed here. The phrase seems to be a neologism defined here although the reliability of that source is unknown to me. Richard-of-Earth (talk) 19:40, 19 June 2015 (UTC)
I have read the reasoning behind the deletion of the article on the Italian Wikipedia, and I would like to summarize their reasoning for deletion:
- The sources are considered to be tabloids by the Wikipedia editors.
- The information on the investigation is protected data, and the sources would have to be leaked information or speculation.
- The content is not encyclopedic, it is news of questionable source and coverage.
- The existence of the organization is questionable, and any article should be written on the scandal, not an organization.
- The articles covering the event are considered sensationalist.
@Richard-of-Earth: Is my understanding correct? So, for WP:RECENTISM and WP:NOTNEWS and WP:RS this article was not kept. The English Wikipedia should follow their example. Scr★pIronIV 20:04, 19 June 2015 (UTC)
- If that applies to all of the sources that have been provided, then this certainly does seem like a candidate for AfD. The English language sources look reliable to me and establish that there's some sort of "Mafia Capitale" investigation/scandal but that's not enough to support the article if the Italian sources aren't reliable. - I would agree; the BBC sources speak only of an investigation, not some "secret underworld organization" consisting of "thousands of people." It should also be noted that the Italian judicial system is notoriously tight-lipped about ongoing investigations. Even when things are reported by the press (read: leaked to the press) in good faith about criminal investigations, the actual source is unknown. Even a reliable news source is not reliable (for our purposes) in these matters. Scr★pIronIV 20:49, 19 June 2015 (UTC)
- I actually cannot read Italian, so I cannot confirm anything about the content on the Italian Wikipedia. I just used Google translate to find this information. But yea, if this is just an ongoing investigation of Mafia infiltration of Rome (the "Capitale") that is not well documented (because the investigator like it that way), then it should be sent to AfD. as User:Fortuna Imperatrix Mundi has already done. Investigation or own criminal entity?
[edit]79.20.127.61 (talk · contribs · WHOIS) Is insisting on having the "criminal organization" infobox and "Leadership" section even though sources call this a scandal, investigation, scheme, or trial. Even a source in Italian he provided me on my talk page called it a trial del processo a mafia capitale..." but he is persisting and over WP:3RR. Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 22:09, 22 January 2019 (UTC)
