[edit]'selling advertisements to local merchants'
Meaning they used their broadcasts to sell advertising? Or that they advertised local merchants during their broadcasts? They would have sold advertising TIME to local merchants, and sold it when they were OFF air.
Or was this some novel type of commercial radio, its only audience being local merchants?
