Accent on last name

[edit]

Should it be properly spelled Kyo, Kyō, or Kyô? The title and text of the article disagree, and other articles spell it Kyô. -Big Smooth 18:29, 25 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Using the Hepburn transliteration, Kyō is the correct version. Kyô is sometimes used because people don't know how to use the ō character, and is widely accepted academically. --93.194.209.31 (talk) 07:13, 18 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

What the heck is up with her eyebrows? Does anyone know? They are downright WEIRD. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.23.114.159 (talk) 22:10, 11 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Looking at google image search, most pictures of her from roles other than Rashomon show her with more-or-less normal eyebrows, so it was probably a stylistic thing Kurosawa had designed for her character. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.45.27.254 (talk) 04:40, 1 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The eyebrows plucked and drawn higher up was a fashion thing of the Heian Period amongst aristocratic women. It was thought to enhance the woman's beauty. Bollockster42 (talk) 11:55, 27 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
