notability

[edit]

Mabel Keaton Staupers was a significant (notable?) figure in both nursing and American history as an advocate for equal rights and an end to racial segregation in the American nursing profession.

She was inducted into the American Nursing Association (ANA) Hall of Fame. http://nursingworld.org/hof/stauperm.htm

She is the subject of an audio-visual product available from the National Technical Infomation Service of the U.S. Department of Commerce. http://www.ntis.gov/search/product.asp?ABBR=AVA08721VNB1

She is referenced in the Encyclopedia Britannica. http://www.britannica.com/eb/article-9002967/Mabel-Keaton-Staupers

She was also awarded the Spingarn Medal by the NAACP in 1951. http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Spingarn_Medal Other receipients of this award include notables such as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., General Colin L. Powell, Oprah Winfrey, Duke Ellington, Jackie Robinson, Alvin Ailey, Maya Angelou, Bill Cosby, Hank Aaron, and others.

These appear to meet the second source criteria and criteria for notability... Lawrence.Levine 23:45, 4 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Though when I met her she stated she was the first black nurse in America, I am unable to find secondary source confirmation of this.
