Perhaps rename article to "Visual style"?

[edit]

Perhaps this article could be renamed to "Visual style", put the current content under an MSSTYLES section, and describe the concept of Windows XP/Vista visual styles in general. It just seems a bit lacking how a detail about visual styles exists, but not about Microsoft's skin engine itself. -- Northgrove 10:33, 5 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Isn't Zune a colour scheme of Royale, the same as Royale Noir, which has also bee signed, BTW, even though it was never officially released? THe screeenshots I have seen of it are pretty similar, with ony a few tweaks and an orange start button.

WindowBlinds doesn't apply MSSTYLES, it uses its own skinning engine. Izt 18:42, 4 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello fellow Wikipedians,

I have just added archive links to one external link on MSSTYLES. Please take a moment to review my edit. If necessary, add {{cbignore}} after the link to keep me from modifying it. Alternatively, you can add {{nobots|deny=InternetArchiveBot}} to keep me off the page altogether. I made the following changes:

When you have finished reviewing my changes, please set the checked parameter below to true to let others know.

Can I add a sub-topic about msstyle editor at the end of article?

[edit]

I mean unofficial editors because there're none official one. This file format is largely popular in resource/theme community but the program to deal with it only developed by hobbyists. Nnq2603 (talk) 02:59, 5 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Release date?

[edit]

Previously, the release date of the format was listed as July 13, 2000, which does not have any reference linked, and I cannot find anything that points to the MSSTYLES format being introduced on July 13, 2000. I changed it to August 24, 2001 (the date Windows XP's RTM was released to manufacturing) for now, but I'm not sure what it should be listed as. Diyamund (talk) 23:00, 27 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

ThemeTool

[edit]

A tool by the name of ThemeTool is being developed by someone named Lucas Brooks, which can supposedly decompile and recompile MSSTYLES themes, including some things which have been untouched before, such as animations (which are supposedly stored inside the MSSTYLES file in Windows 8 and up). Here is a Tweet from them showcasing the tool. Obviously, since this tool has no public build at all, there is no way to tell whether any of this is real or not short of reverse engineering the Windows Vista+ MSSTYLES format yourself. Just putting this here in-case the program ever does get released, because it could be massively useful. Diyamund (talk) 23:12, 27 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
