Is this weapon autmatic

[edit]

Stand alone can this be used in full auto?

No, the lever on the left side is like a regular pump action shotgun's pump. King Toast —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.128.253.170 (talk) 13:36, 28 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bolt action (easier to operate in this configuration). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.10.167.226 (talk) 06:20, 3 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Name

[edit]

The link here on the thing at the bottom calls it an XM26, the picture calls it an XM26, all the links and references call it an XM26, so wheres the X in the article? In the article name? Call me a traditionilist but I prefer using the real name for things rather than a made up or anticipated name (it is my understanding that the X gets lost when it gets fully deployed or leaves experimental stages or something, something which some weapons never got but others such as the M16, I suppose, did, but I'm rusty on modern weapons and their facts). Even if it does not use the X anymore, you might want to explain when that was lost. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.137.207.191 (talk) 08:26, 1 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The “X” (obviously, ‘experimental’) designator was dropped approximately 2003 when the first M-26’s saw action simultaneously in Iraq and Afghanistan. ¡Hope that helps!Andering J. REDDSON (talk) 17:59, 21 May 2008 (UTC)Andy REDDSON[reply]

Incorrect, an experimental weapon can see service without losing the X in its designation. The experimental status only ends when the weapon has received its "Full Materiel Release." D.E. Watters (talk) 23:06, 21 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for that. If you had anything USEFULL to say you would have at the time. AJR. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.10.167.226 (talk) 06:15, 3 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The page name should use the abbreviated format M26 MASS, the full title is superfluous and unpractical. Koalorka (talk) 17:33, 8 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

SCAR?

[edit]

Can the M26 be mounted on either the Mk. 16 or Mk.17 SCAR? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.109.95.1 (talk) 15:04, 15 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Civilian Variant?

[edit]

Is the LSS remotely street-legal? The lightweight stand-alone configuration would be an excellent home-defense weapon ... something less MILSTD along the same lines would probably be a better buy for the job, though. MrG 70.59.6.5 (talk) 19:11, 20 November 2008 (UTC) If a civilian variant were made, it would have to be much longer, since this version would be in the catagory of a sawed-off shotgun now. Also, an 18 inch underbarrel shotgun would probably limit the use of the actual weapon. Arcdash (talk) 23:37, 22 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Inventor/Manufacturer

[edit]

FWIW: The company which has invented, developed, and manufactured the XM26 MASS has remained the same, but has operated under diferent names. It has alternatively operated as C-More, Colt Competition, and Vertu Corp. The company officers and business addresses are same. --D.E. Watters (talk) 12:21, 21 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The picture of the weapon in use

[edit]

Noticed a few things on the picture of the M26 in use. Chiefly being...

1. The m26 seems to have "Non-firing" written on it, with something else at the end. I can't make it out.

2. The M4's second magazine attached to the loaded one, seems to be blocking the ejection port. That can't be safe.

-Dannysaysnoo 23:06, 23 October 2009 (GMT)

  • The text is 'Non-firing demiled' [as in 'demilitarised,' I guess] presumably meaning it's a non-functional demonstration device. It looks like the shooter might have accidentally shoved the spare magazine up in the holder when he put his hand on the M26. Herr Gruber (talk) 16:33, 5 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Not to mention the second mag prevents the bolt on the shotgun from being fully pulled back. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 114.77.31.158 (talk) 13:05, 2 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It's hard to see, but the weapon is actually being "held" by a mannequin. It is not an "US Army Soldier," as the caption states. -W — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.171.209.93 (talk) 00:50, 4 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
