Factual errors removed
[edit]Just deleted two paragraphs containing fantastic claims, including that Luis de Unzaga inspired George Washington to begin calling the rebellious 13 colonies "the United States."
The claim rests on a misreading of a primary source (cited here) and confusion of Washington with Charles Lee (general). (It also overlooks abundant evidence that the "colonies" declared their independence in summer 1776 as the "United States of America.")
This is a good reminder of why Wikipedia editors are gently discouraged from relying on primary sources. It's easy to get carried away. — ℜob C. alias ALAROB 01:37, 15 November 2022 (UTC)
