Organizing illusion
In Milch's shows there's always an organizing illusion (Deadwood had gold, for example). In Luck, it's the notion that a horse crossing the finish line before another can truly change a man's life.

Time travel
Tv execs apparently know the secret of it. I assume that the rest of the series is going to air sometime in 2012. Horse deaths?
