The plot description is wrong, surely?
[edit]Just seen this movie, and the plot description doen’t match my experience. Firstly, Christine doesn’t “discover” Philippe’s irregualr accounting - she knows of the issue from the get-go, and has allowed the matter to ride while having the affair with him; however, she’s angling for a promotion to the U.S., so is going to drop him, so she sets up a scheme to cover her back and expose the fraud if he doesn’t return the money. Secondly, and more importantly, the plot concocted by Isabelle is "all" a scam - it doesn’t “become” more difficult for her than she anticipated - she anticipates everything. The mental breakdown was contrived, and all the clues planted by her were done to build up the circumstantial “evidence” for a case against her; having been (deliberately) arrested and (deliberately) sent to prison, she then (deliberately) contrives to un-pick the case against her and load it onto Philippe - cementing this by planting evidence (the shawl), directing him into how to tamper with the evedience in Christine’s file, and exposing his fraud and the destruction of Christine’s letter to the Police. Finally, it misses the fact that having killed Christine, framed with Philippe (who colluded in Isabelle’s humiliation by Christine in front of her colleagues at the party), been exonerated by the authorities in spite of being guilty and been rewarded with Christine’s old job, Isabelle fails to get away with the perfect crime, because her colleague Daniel has uncovered the truth about her apparent break-down and prescription drug dependency - the pills were placebos, and Isabelle was lucid at all times. Daniel, it is implied, is as willing to exploit this knowledge for his own advancement as Christine was to exploit Isabelle’s experties at the start of the film.
