About the examination a career in defence services is the much sought after occupation today for those young and courageous youths of the country who are willing to dedicate their lives to defend the country and its people, the combined defence services examination is the first test before they can join one of the best defence forces in the world i.e the Indian Armed Forces.

UPSE conducts the Combined Defence Services Exam twice every year generally in February and August for recruiting officers for the Indian Military Academy. Male candidates can join IMA, Naval and Air Force but for female OTA in the army is available.

The examination comprises of two stages the first stage consists of a written test and those who qualify the written test are called for interview by Service Selection Board (SSB) for intelligence and Personality Test.

Nationality A candidate must be either

Indian citizen, or A subject of Bhutan, or A subject of Nepal, or A Tibetan refugee who came over to India before 1st January 1962 with the intention of permanently setting in India, or A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka and East African country of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire and Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently setting in India. Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (ii), (iii), (iv) and (v) above shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India.
