Rabbi of Temple Israel of the City of New York?

The article states:

In 1921, he became rabbi of Temple Israel in New York City and was appointed to the faculty of the Jewish Institute of Religion (JIR) when it was founded the following year.[1]

All the sources I've seen on Temple Israel of the City of New York say that Maurice Harris was Temple Israel's rabbi from 1882 to 1930. I can't make out where the reference supports this, though other sources do.[2][3] Does anyone have any idea why this discrepancy exists? Was Newman an assistant rabbi under Harris?
