Unsourced

[edit]

@DrThneed: Clicked on this at random after your comment at Women in Red, and noticed that the date of birth and full name are apparently unsourced. The full name appears in the references attached to the subject's thesis but there's nothing for the date of birth in the infobox -- it's being pulled from Wikidata so I've no clue even how to alter it, so I've hidden it for now. Thanks @Espresso Addict. I've added back just the year, which is included at the start of one of her books. LOC has her full birthdate but I'm not comfortable adding that to a BLP. One of the things I'll be checking going back through articles is what info is getting pulled from Wikidata and whether it should be or not.
Would you normally expect to see a source for the full name directly after the name at the top, even if it's included elsewhere? I hadn't thought to do that as I haven't seen it much elsewhere but maybe I've just not noticed that. DrThneed (talk) 05:04, 27 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I would always explicitly source the full name, at least in cases where it is not what the subject generally publishes under. Need not be in the capsule unless that's the only place it appears (which was the case here, unless I'm missing something?). I sometimes write out the full name again at the start of the Early life and education section, just to have a less-prominent place to park a reference, but that can be overkill in a short start-class article.
We shouldn't of course be giving full date of birth unless it's published in mainstream sources. Good idea to check what is pulling from Wikidata! The dates of birth on some of the sister languages are certainly not sourced to our standards. Espresso Addict (talk) 05:17, 27 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
