Just wanted to point out this article if someone wants to expand upon the article [1] --Kranar drogin 03:33, 6 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Is this by Taft?

[edit]
4th Michigan Infantry Monument, Gettysburg Battlefield, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, 1889.

SIRIS lists the sculptor of this as Unknown.
But Draw the Sword lists the sculptor as Lorado Taft.
Does anyone know which is right? BoringHistoryGuy (talk) 02:15, 16 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Same story for the 3rd Michigan Infantry. 1889 is sort of early for Taft, but possible. Smallbones (talk) 03:50, 16 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Taft comes back from Paris in about 1885, ready to go. I can pretty easily see this as being an early work by him.. Most of the New England granite companies who did a lot of these sorts of things seem to have kept pretty good records, so it is pretty believable to me that it is not one of them. I've looked through my Taft stuff, Weller and Garvey, as well as Taft's own writings, but so far, nothing. I am curious about where Draw the Sword got their info, but would consider them an acceptable source, 'cause, why not? Also Taft has some Michigan connections, does some michigan commessions. I am the owner and creator of the Draw the Sword website. The source citing Taft as the sculptor of the 4th Michigan monument is the National Park Service: http://www.hscl.cr.nps.gov/insidenps/report.asp?STATE=&PARK=GETT&STRUCTURE=&SORT=&RECORDNO=382 This list from the University of Illinois also suggests he did do work on Gettysburg monuments from Michigan: http://www.library.illinois.edu/archives/ead/ua/2620016/2620016series5.html I hope that helps. I do not know where the NPS got that information, but I presume it to be valid. --Aphillcsa (talk) 21:14, 16 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Well we were willing to take your word for it, but yes, truly it is written, seek and you shall find, ask and you will receive." Thanks Aph. Carptrash (talk) 00:05, 17 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Excellent! Thank you. BoringHistoryGuy (talk) 01:52, 17 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
