Character list

[edit]

Classifications such as "antagonist" should be avoided per WP:ANTAGONIST. Also, we don't need a list of every single minor character that has appeared on the show, most of them are likely non-notable if they haven't appeared in more episodes. nyuszika7h (talk) 17:34, 12 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

English dub first?

[edit]

Can someone help dig through the blogs and confirm whether the episodes were written and dubbed for English first and then French? I heard it mentioned on some of the fan tumblrs. AngusWOOF (barksniff) 03:25, 19 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

That reminds me of an interesting thing I noticed on Netflix... the French subtitles seem to be a translation of the English dub rather than what's actually spoken in the French dub. nyuszika7h (talk) 09:47, 19 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Found this post recently on Team LoliRock. This should confirm it: [1] AngusWOOF (barksniff) 21:59, 31 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Etymology

[edit]

This was removed from the article:

The title itself, LoliRock, comes from the name of the band, and according to an interview on the official site, it is a play on "LOL," "i" as in the Spanish conjunction meaning "and", and the word "rock."

I found this out from https://www.reddit.com/r/MLPLounge/comments/4hdkq7/anyone_heard_of_this_show_called_lolirock/. So what is the actual etymology of "LoliRock"? Does the "Loli" part come from this meaning of the word "loli":

?

If it does, is it based on (b), (a), or something else? I feel like it is based on (b), but IDK. --User123o987name (talk) 08:06, 3 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Well, looking at some screenshots online, the characters certainly aren't drawn like actual loli characters found in manga, so I'd say it's more of a fashion thing. ~Anachronist (talk) 02:13, 23 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

English version is the original

[edit]

I really don't know how to use the edit warring report, so I guess this will do for now. I have been conlicting with this editor Special:Contributions/190.167.128.78 about whether the English version is the original. Not only does it state so in the article itself, but I have also some provided evidence myself in the revert discussions. There is also a previous discussion here, titled "English dub first?" that further supports my claim. I really hope the user is enlightened on this issue and comes to agree with me. For now, I would appreciate if this was settled professionally. ToonBafoon744 (talk) 10:19, 28 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry but I think I was wrong in explicitly saying that I didn't see the characters moving those lips and synchronization during the process of the animated sequence, well apparently the link you showed me is proof that the animatic was obviously edited by computer, but if you look carefully some animated music videos from the main YouTube channel LoliRock (Francais) where is the popular videos section more below, the song BFF (Amies pour la vie) there I do see three characters moving those real lips and synchronization in the original French language. 190.167.128.78 (talk) 17:50, 28 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
And my edits that I just reverted several times about the French voice cast and the original language of this article are correct, if the episodes of this series were written and recorded first in English and then adapted to French as you said, before it premiered on tv channels in North America I have nothing to do with it. 190.167.128.78 (talk) 18:10, 28 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Okay. I really wish this issue could be solved smoothly. But I am never changing my mind. I wish I saw your point, but I disagree.
I made sure to check the English and French uploads side by side from both official channels, and the lipsyncing is literally based off the original ENGLISH version (literally, at 0:36, the lyric "we'll be laughing", lip movement is synchronised to the English version, not French). All this means is that the French version did an impressive job at synchronising to the English version.
"the link you showed me is proof that the animatic was obviously edited by computer" I'm sorry, but what do you even mean by this? A show can premiere in a foreign dubbed version before its original language. "before it premiered on tv channels in North America I have nothing to do with it." Are you suggesting that just because the show never aired on US television or was released later in the US means that English is not the original? Because a show can premiere in a foreign dubbed version before its original language. (https://dubdb.fandom.com/wiki/%D7%92%D7%95%D7%A1%D7%98_%D7%A4%D7%95%D7%A8%D7%A1)
Are you still trying to find justifications for your argument despite the many sources proving otherwise? Okay then. Let me provide another example.
When looking at the show's composer, Norbert Gilbert's official Soundcloud account (https://soundcloud.com/norbertgilbert), you can see all the studio extended versions of the songs, all of which are in English, proving that that's the original language. And you can't even argue that it's not actually his account, because the song Goodbye Friends was uploaded by this account in 2015 (https://soundcloud.com/norbertgilbert/goodbye), two years before season 2 even released, thus proving he uploaded it there early to show off his work.
Now, can you answer me this: if the show was TRULY produced with French as the original language in mind that you're so adamant on for some reason, why on Earth would the composer show off all the songs in English? And yes, the French version of the show also got an album release too, alongside the English version, making it the only versions of the show to have that. But then again, if French, again, really is the original language... why was "LoliRock (Original Series Soundtrack)", which is essentially the series' entire background score, and which was released last year, only have an English release? Why not also a French release? Why would this release include only two songs with vocals, being "Opening Title" and "Goodbye Friends" in English? Why not also a French release? How come the French version of Goodbye also was not given a soundtrack release, despite having been dubbed? Unless... it's not really the original??
But let's say I didn't have all of this evidence. There's still one glaring fact. I must emphasise the show's production Tumblr literally says themselves that the show was written and recorded in English! I must emphasise the contents within that source: Tabitha St. Germain voices Amaru in both the English and French versions. I must emphasise that this means that Amaru's dialogue is retained in the French dub. I must emphasise that even this related post from the production Tumblr listing the French voice cast of the series even credits Tabitha as the voice of Amaru in the French version (https://teamlolirock.tumblr.com/post/133994170213/lolirock-season-1-full-french-cast-all-the). (In fact this would mean that the article stating that Léopoldine Serre voicing Amaru in the French version is incorrect info, which is fault on our part as editors of this page.) I must emphasise how the series' production Tumblr has been a consistent reliable source throughout the ENTIRE article, and just because it doesn't support your claims on this singular minor but interesting instance has you bending over backwards to prove otherwise?
And I also must emphasise the early discussion on the Talk page "English dub first?", which further supports my argument, and which you have seemingly ignored.
French being the original language of LoliRock appears to be info that many agree on. As editors of this article, we have to inform the general person that this is wrong and show the reason why otherwise.
I have said all I can to present the truth to you. Please do not allow this conflict to arise further, in which it will be turned into an edit warring report. Thank you for your cooperation. ToonBafoon744 (talk) 18:35, 28 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
In fact, an even better example for "a show can premiere in a foreign dubbed version before its original language" is Miraculous Ladybug. As that show was produced in South Korea alongside France, you could mistakenly argue that the Korean version is the original just because it premiered before the French version, even though we disagree on that statement. Apologies for the quick inconvenient add on. ToonBafoon744 (talk) 18:38, 28 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Dude, you expect me to believe your false narrative that the songs from the original soundtrack of the series were released in English first through digital music platforms when instead of starting to be translated directly from the original version and being dubbed into English in the studio based in Vancouver, Canada to be able to back up your arguments if I can show you the channel's videos that you did not watch the playlist with all the songs are sung in French by Cassandre Berger something similar to this (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLiqB4-gy4wAeXl5GNb4sffiIF4Vf4UPXy) and although the 4 videos at that time are not available on YouTube because they were automatically hidden. 190.167.128.78 (talk) 22:00, 28 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
And I'm not sure whatever the Tumblr page dedicated to LoliRock says some false claims made by fans that the show was written and recorded in English first prior to the premiere, for example Tabitha St. Germain (Auriana's English voice) did the characterization of Amaru for worldwide marketing reasons except Europe but I don't hear the audio track within the original French voices but Léopoldine Serre (Auriana's original voice) can be heard and that explains why every time I do not clearly show the information that I just added to another section is correct yes I give you the links as proof that the original French voice cast is the real one and was created by themselves.

http://www.planete-jeunesse.com/fiche-3129-lolirock-castetendu.html 190.167.128.78 (talk) 22:49, 28 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Minor point: I see that http://www.planete-jeunesse.com/fiche-3129-lolirock-castetendu.html and https://www.rsdoublage.com/dessinanime-16140-LoliRockhtml have been cited in an edit log as evidence for “French was first”. Having checked both links, all I see is a cast list for the French version. So I am not convinced that either is evidence for anything here.
More importantly: how is this problem going to be resolved? Could the article state something to the effect of there are no clear secondary sources to help us and so we present both cast lists without stating authoritatively which is the original? Nick Levine (talk) 01:50, 31 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with presenting both cast lists and not saying which came first unless there's a reliable source that says otherwise. WhoAteMyButter (🌷talk🌻contribs) 02:14, 31 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi again! Thank you for reaching out and your support. I'd also like to point out that the user I'm conflicting with appears to believe the Tumblr page is made by fans. It quite clearly states it's by the people behind the show. ToonBafoon744 (talk) 10:51, 31 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
And yes: I am also in agreement with presenting both English and French cast lists. ToonBafoon744 (talk) 10:52, 31 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No, the statements that you raised about the LoliRock's Tumblr page made by fans are false, what they said on the blog about the episodes of the French animated series are just rumors that they were going to dub it into English and the translations adapted directly into French, two years late before premiere in the United States via Netflix with an English audio track only although I can't find any notable news coverage on Google about how the process of the storyboard behind the female characters when they singing and speaking in a French-language during an animated sequence of the same, you just have to watch the videos'playlist on the main LoliRock's French YouTube channel before stating unequivocally and take look at the web reference data where it proves that this is the real original voice cast. 179.53.52.131 (talk) 06:20, 1 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
In the above discussion, I'm seeing a lot of original research, which we don't allow. Citing your own personal interpretations of YouTube videos and Soundcloud links is not acceptable. I also want to comment on "As editors of this article, we have to inform the general person that this is wrong and show the reason why otherwise." – as editors, we are to summarize what reliable sources say about a subject. We are not here to right great wrongs.
If you want to say its a English, French, Klingon, whatever, TV show, you need to verify this information. What I see now is that it's a French show (broadcast on French media) which has English versions. It was first recorded in English and then adapted into French. Reliable sources describe it as French. For the cast lists, just list both versions if such information is verifiable. WhoAteMyButter (🌷talk🌻contribs) 07:13, 1 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Very well, maybe you make sense about the issue of seeing a lot of original research and not allowing it or verifying that information, but what about the another web reference obtained from Apple TV, that is not verifiable either especially apart from both the original voice cast and the English dubbing where you can see the language more below along with the information which the series' original audio obviously is the French. See: https://tv.apple.com/us/show/lolirock/umc.cmc.47niv7hkrcquq8kvutmtk1m8q 179.53.52.131 (talk) 02:20, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I would prefer a source that has more in-depth (or explanatory), significant coverage than a simple listing. WhoAteMyButter (🌷talk🌻contribs) 20:14, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
In this web reference (other than Apple TV or from links related to a website dedicated to the French dubbing database) it is said that the series was first premiered in 2014, along with the synopsis of episode 1 and features the cast of original actors who provide the voices of the main characters, antagonists, etc. from the aforementioned series thas was produced by Marathon Media (now Zodiak Kids) in their respective language, but I can't find of any more coverage news in French to expand on. File:English is original.png
Apparently the sources i found recently were invalid or something?Alright then. There. I just got confirmation from the creator himself that English is the original. Now can we please end this?
ToonBafoon744 (talk) 21:19, 4 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Wait, are you asked the show's creator in his Instagram account about your 100% truthful claim that English repeatedly if is the original without giving a logical explanation of what the process of a storyboard would be like when creating an animated sequence of the characters and how the episodes were written first and adapted into French., as said before in my commentary that the animated series produced by Marathon Media was originally premiered first in 2014 in French-speaking territory (including France) outside or around the world and later would make an English dub to the show and was only premiered on Netflix in English-speaking territory including the United States, well there must be a solution in parts to include again the original French-speaking voice cast in the column next to the dub's English voices in the infobox, what do you think. 148.101.172.175 (talk) 00:20, 5 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This seems to just back up what's already in the article: English was recorded first, but it was adapted into French later. So, is it just the French cast list that could be added to the infobox? WhoAteMyButter (🌷talk🌻contribs) 00:38, 5 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That's right! Indeed! 148.101.172.175 (talk) 00:50, 5 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
And I must also remind you that when you add the list of French actors in the infobox, it goes first in the top column in the parameter's Voices of followed by the English dub's voices. 148.101.172.175 (talk) 01:00, 5 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
How's this?
French:[1]
* Lisa Caruso
* Kelly Marot
* Léopoldine Serre
* Gilles Morvan
* Karine Foveau
* Nessym Guetat
* Hugo Brunswick
English:[2]
* Kazumi Evans
* Ashleigh Ball
* Tabitha St. Germain
* Kelly Sheridan
* Vincent Tong
* Mackenzie Gray
* Matt Ellis
I'm limiting the number to 7, just like the English cast. WhoAteMyButter (🌷talk🌻contribs) 02:28, 5 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, it is the same double voice cast that I used to see in the infobox and that once the cast information was accidentally removed like in other similar articles to several series which also was produced by the same animation studio and production company behind Totally Spies! in France, among other similar animation studios because one realizes unequivocally that they were the ones lending their voices in their original language from that French country but there was some misunderstanding from the beginning of the creation of this article. 148.101.172.175 (talk) 03:29, 5 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've made the change in the infobox. WhoAteMyButter (🌷talk🌻contribs) 03:43, 5 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, as it seems to have been sorted, I will just say that I am in utter disbelief that the opposing user still does not fully believe the English version as the original. Even after I asked the creator himself. Greivances aside, I'm glad that we found a compromise. ToonBafoon744 (talk) 09:56, 5 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
