Grammar dispute

[edit]

FromCzech, the changes you insist on reverting—[1] are grammatical improvements. What exactly do you dispute about them? Revirvlkodlaku (talk) 02:11, 9 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • main landmark of vs main landmark in: they make sense both but this is not a grammatical improvement. Why the first phrase is better in your opinion? For example, Google shows three times more hits on the first one.
  • Church vs church: look how it used here or here or here. The first one is completely fine and not a grammatical improvement, I would even say that it is more common here on Wiki.
  • in 1726. The church tower... vs in 1726, and the tower...: I will repeate my edit summary – connecting two unrelated sentences with "and" is not stylistically correct. The second sentence does not develop the first one, and it does not talk about the church but about the tower. The term "church tower" is also fine, and it seems to me better to specify it. I wouldn't call your version "a grammatical improvement".
  • late Baroque vs late-Baroque: the dash is useless. The first phrase is significantly more common than the second one according to Google and literature.
  • In short: although both options are possible, your edit cannot be considered an improvement. You just put it in your own words. FromCzech (talk) 06:07, 9 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
landmark – "main landmark in" sounds better to me, but I agree that it's stylistic, so I won't fight you on it.
church – regardless of what you've found in other articles, whether their usage is correct or not, the word church should only be capitalized if "church" is part of the name, which in this case, I doubt it is.
tower – the two sentences are absolutely related, they both refer to the church. Is the tower not part of the church? In my opinion, the paragraph flows better when the two clauses are conjoined rather than being separate sentences.
Baroque – in this case, "late" modifies Baroque, so it becomes a compound and should be hyphenated. Revirvlkodlaku (talk) 15:15, 9 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Church: the practice is that it is commonly treated as part of the name in such cases. Church with a capital C is more common and there is no reason to correct it.
  • Tower: The subject of the first sentence is "church", while in the second sentence it is "tower". The tower is actually part of the church, but grammatically it is a different subject. Maybe I'm wrong and your way is also possible, but I don't consider the original wording to be a mistake that needs correction.
  • Baroque: late Baroque is commonly used and there is no reason to correct it. It is not a mistake.

Clearly, you have zero interest in compromise. I have made countless concessions to you, and you haven't made a single one. This is not a constructive approach to Wikipedia editing. You do not own this article and therefore have no superior right to decide how it is to be presented. Revirvlkodlaku (talk) 02:08, 10 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

My third opinion is, that FromCzech \'s approach is more gramatically appropriate. Sincerely, F15Dude (talk) 11:26, 12 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
