An old edition of Popular Mechanics says that Lockard Martin was 7 ft 4.

There is some tendency to exaggerate the height of people over 7 ft. That said Find a Grave, the American Film Institute[1], and IMDB agreed on 7 ft 7. A few others indicate less, but are non-specific and just say "over seven foot." Therefore I'll keep it at 7 ft 7 in least for now.--T. Anthony 06:47, 7 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well I happen to know that he was 7'7" and how do I know this ? Because he was my grandfather. So no it wasn't exaggerated. Tammy Chatman..granddaughter of Ethel Babcock.

I'm also Locks Martin's granddaughter, one that lived with him and my grandmother for many years. 7'7" was, in fact, an exaggeration - one that was perpetuated for the sake of his career. Nearly all published references will cite the 7'7" height. I even have a copy of the photograph which shows him standing next to a "marker" indicating his height (7'7"), but it was generally known within the family that he wasn't really that tall. I can't recall his true height--7"4" sounds about right--but know that he was definitely not as tall as all the publicity claims. Kathleen

I can only the information I obtained from my mother.I guess we will never really know his axact height. Tammy Chatman —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.207.129.254 (talk) 05:35, 27 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

He died young (42?), was this to do with the condition that caused his height, or another reason? 94.174.108.74 (talk) 19:52, 2 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Claimed gigantism

[edit]

Recently, an IP editor (@2600:1700:2950:3cd0:4477:7c16:b95c:5054:) has been claiming via an edit (examply) that Lock Martin suffered from gigantism. I have removed this material as uncited. I have tried to find reliable sources that support this claim, but have not been able to find such sources as yet. Being tall does not automatically mean someone suffers from gigantism. Barring presentation of reliable sources that support this claim, this material should not be in the article in my opinion. I welcome other input. --Hammersoft (talk) 14:18, 6 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
