[edit]What do the years in front of each name signify ? Death dates ? Well in some names it is the death date, like for instance Hürrem Sultan. But the death dates of the last two (Gülüstü and Gülcemal) are certainly not 1909 and 1918. Nedim Ardoğa (talk) 12:51, 20 July 2010 (UTC)
- I think the years should be altered to represent the years during which they had the position in question--Aciram (talk) 08:39, 10 September 2010 (UTC)
Mükrime
[edit]I cleared out the name Sitti Mukrime Hatun who was shown as the consort of Mehmet I. Actually Mükrime Hatun was the consort of Mehmet II. Nedim Ardoğa (talk) 13:48, 20 July 2010 (UTC)
Non-Valides
[edit]The list contained several people who was not valides, but mothers and consorts to sultans. The list is of valides and should only contain valides, but perhaps one could make a separate list of Sultan consorts--Aciram (talk) 08:39, 10 September 2010 (UTC)
Here are non-valides previously on the the list of valides, as well as some non-valides listed in the succession-boxes of valide-sultans:
- 1324: Mal Hatun - Wife of Osman I, mother of Orhan I. She was possibly the daughter of Sheik Edebali (this one seem duboius, though)
- 1403: Devlet Hatun (or Devlet Shah Hatun) - Wife of Bayezid I, mother of Mehmed I. She was the daughter of Yakub Shah of Germiyan (although, according to some sources, she was daughter of Serbian noble Prince Lazar), and married Bayezid I after the battle of Kosovo 1389. Her christian name was Mara or Olivera.
- 1510: Gülbahar Sultan (1453-1510), Greek wife of Bayezid II
- 1512: Ayşe Hatun - Wife of Bayezid II, mother of Selim I, and the daughter of Alaüddevle Bozkurt, the nineth ruler of Dulkadiroğulları State.
- 1558: Hürrem Sultan - Wife of Suleiman I, mother of Selim II. Her original name was Alexandra Lisovska, and she was of Ruthenian descent.
- 1687: Hatice Muazzez Sultan (1687), Polish Jewish wife of Ibrahim I
- 1691: Khadija Muazzez - Yet another wife of Ibrahim I, mother of Ahmed II. She was of Polish Jewish descent. Her original name was Esther.
- 1732: Mihrimah Sultan (1732) French wife of Ahmed III
- 1757: Amina Mihrimah Sultan - Wife of Ahmed III, mother of Mustafa III. She was of French descent. Her original name was Janet.
- 1774: Rabia Sharmi - Wife of Ahmed III, mother of Abdul Hamid I. She was of French descent. Her original name was Ida.
- 1861: Gülüstü (1831-1861), Circassian wife of Abdülmecid I
- 1876: Tirimüjgan - Wife of Abdülmecid I, biological mother of Abdul Hamid II. She was of Circassian descent.
- 1909: Gülcemal - Wife of Abdülmecid I, mother of Mehmed V. She was of Circassian descent.
- 1918: Gülüstü - Wife of Abdülmecid I, mother of Mehmed VI. She was of Circassian descent.
A part from the fact that they should not be on the valide list of they weren't valides, they are relevant to mention. Consorts of monarchs are usually given articles. I recomend that a separate article is started with a list of the consorts of the Ottoman Sultans. --Aciram (talk) 08:56, 10 September 2010 (UTC)
- I agree about the above remark about the mothers who are not Valide Sultan. Valide Sultan does not mean the mother of the sultan. It is a title. While some adoptive mothers are Valide Sultan (like Rahime Perestu) some biological mothers who die before their sons' accession are not Valide Sultan (like Tirimüjgan) Furthermore, since the death dates of the earlier mothers are usually not known, their status as Valide Sultan is questionable.
