Gustav Gerneth's actual date of death
Our esteemed collaborator Chicdat seems to be convinced that his personal interpretation of the circumstances of Gerneth's death outweighs the evidence of his official obituary. That's basically WP:OR (22 October per original research) outweighing WP:RS (21 October per obituary https://anzeigen.volksstimme.de/anzeigen/OnlineServlet.do?anzId=123896). He's arguing that his interpretation is based on consensus, so I'm starting this discussion in order to give other editors the opportunity to share their opinion on this matter. Renewal6 (talk) 20:32, 31 October 2021 (UTC)
- @Renewal6: The only place where you'll get input is WT:LONGEVITY. Also, you've been told by a second editor, TFBCT1, the consensus. 🐔 Chicdat Bawk to me! 11:50, 4 November 2021 (UTC)
- @Chicdat:: Last edit on WT:LONGEVITY dates back to 30 July (bots excluded), compare it to the last edit here (20 September) . If I don't get input, it will be a confirmation that no such consensus exists. A second longevity editor, Bart Versieck, thanked me twelve times for correcting the date of death to 21 October, that would also support no consensus on 22 October. Renewal6 (talk) 16:46, 4 November 2021 (UTC)
- Bart Versieck thanks everybody for editing longevity related articles. DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 20:35, 5 November 2021 (UTC)
- @DerbyCountyinNZ: I did not intend to provide an argument from authority. Instead, my point is: If TFBCT1's interpretation were a valid argument, Bart's thank-you-notifications would be valid as well. Renewal6 (talk) 22:17, 5 November 2021 (UTC)
- @Renewal6: Yes, but the truth is that many editors have it watchlisted, and you'll see that the night of 21 October does mean in the arly hours of 22 October. In the meantime, since you seem opposed to the idea of such a discussion, I'll start it. 🐔 Chicdat Bawk to me! 10:06, 5 November 2021 (UTC)
- @Chicdat: "you'll see that the night of 21 October does mean in the arly hours of 22 October." My only question: Why? Secondly, I'm not in any way opposed to such a discussion, I just perceive it as counterproductive to start two or three discussions on the same topic. - If there is a reliable source which states with certainty (i.e. overnight on 21/22 is not good enough) that he died on 22 October, then that should be used, regardless of the date used by the GRG (who have been wrong before) or other RS state. If there is no such source then 21 October should be used. DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 18:45, 4 November 2021 (UTC)
- @DerbyCountyinNZ: There is no such source, the references included in the articles state that he died in the night of 21 October. His death was made public on 22 October, so this was first considered to be his date of death. However, the two WP:RS (obituary and commemoration) published later, i. e. not immediately after his death, state with certainty that he died on 21 October. Because of that, it would be WP:OR to stick to the original interpretation (the night of 21 October = 22 October). Renewal6 (talk) 20:56, 4 November 2021 (UTC)

LAS (supercentenarios,net)

There is more on the website. LockzZ (talk) 15:57, 13 March 2022 (UTC)
- Yep, Mexico's oldest man ever would be Mauro Ambriz Tapia (1897-2011), I think, and Peru's would be Horacio Celi Mendoza (also 1897-2011): https://www.supercentenarios.net/las-personas-m%C3%A1s-longevas And there is also Tomás Pinales Figuereo (1906-2020) for the Dominican Republic's oldest man ever. 68.4.99.100 (talk) 06:09, 9 July 2022 (UTC)
Indian oldest male
Swami Sivanandas age isn't on GRGs website as sourced from reference 6. This claim of being 125 year old needs some verification. 42.105.117.125 (talk) 16:15, 22 March 2022 (UTC)
- Age 125 would be quite extraordinary since it would be 2-3 years above Jeanne Calment and 5-6 years above Kane Tanaka. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence! 68.4.99.100 (talk) 06:10, 9 July 2022 (UTC)
"Brañas" vs. "Branyas"
Based on consensus spelled out here on the "List of the Oldest Living People" talk page, since all credible outside sources for Maria Branyas Morera (currently the oldest living person in Spain) cited use "Branyas" and not "Brañas," it should be spelled "Branyas" here too. I am mentioning this here, since there has been many reverts there on this issue, and I anticipate it potentially happening here too. Damiel (talk) 17:50, 28 August 2022 (UTC)
Chinese oldest male
In the reference[3], Shi Ping was born in 1911 Nov 1st, not 1912 Nov 1st.(公开资料显示,施平生于1911年11月1日).--超级核潜艇 (talk) 07:19, 8 April 2024 (UTC)
- @超级核潜艇, According to the old Chinese calendar, it is 1911, which according to the new one is 1 November 1912. Дејан2021 (talk) 08:05, 16 April 2024 (UTC)
