Non-Latin American countries on list

[edit]

Since the Merriam Webster definition of telenovela is "a soap opera produced in and televised in or from many Latin-American countries," I don't think non-Latin American countries like Canada and Romania should be included in this list. Any thoughts? DBlomgren 20:10, 28 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, imo that's a very limited definition of telenovela. I don't know about Canadian or Romanian telenovelas, but Portugal has been making telenovelas since the 80s. And it certainly isn't a Latin American country. :) Cattus talk 03:21, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The main Wikipedia article on Telenovelas includes those produced by countries outside of Latin America, including the Philippines and Canada. (And Germany I think.) Some, but not all of the countries, are Latin in terms of the Romance Language usage (originating from Latin), which include not only Spanish, but also French (hence Quebec) and Portuguese (hence Portugal and Brazil). Germany is clearly not one of these. The main article is really describing more of a genre: "of the type made famous in Latin America." A genre which has since spread in popularity to other parts of the world. Ileanadu (talk) 19:34, 27 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The correct defintion of a telenovela is a genre of a soap opera in miniseries format, that doesn't neccessarily have to all be from Latin America:) User:Success123$ —Preceding undated comment added 03:22, 22 April 2012 (UTC).[reply]

Inconsistency of Lists of the Various Countries

[edit]

In some cases the titles are listed alphabetically and with no date information. In other cases they are listed by year. There should be consistency among the sections. Even if listed in alphabetical order the date should be included. Ileanadu (talk) 19:34, 27 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Split

[edit]

I think this list really needs splitting by country. In split form each one will be better categorised and more likely to be turned into a proper list with sortable tables, dates, producer, source material, etc. Rd232 talk 15:45, 11 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
