Criteria for inclusion on the list of systems scientists?

[edit]

Is there some criteria of including an individual as a systems scientist on this list? I see a mix of scientists, many of whom are established within a discipline, but not really working across disciplines. In addition, I see some systems engineers who would be considered system scientists, but some are systems engineers who would see themselves as engineers rather than scientists. The entry on Systems science seems to differentiate between "formal sciences" and "applications".

One criteria that I could see is leadership in a recognized systems and/or cybernetics organization, because that is an election amongst peers. Of course, it's possible that some systems scientists would be loners.

In my opinion, the list is too long, and could be pruned. Daviding (talk) 14:03, 27 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi David, the one criteria to include persons on this list is given with the statement on top of the list:
"people who made notable contributions in the field of the systems sciences".
In the Category:Systems scientists an other description is given:
This Category Systems scientists gives an overview of scientists in the different fields of systems science: Such as Chaos theory, Complex systems theory, Control theory, Cybernetics, Dynamical Systems, General systems theory, Living systems theory, Mathematical Systems theory, Operations researchers, Social Systems theory, Systems biology, Systems ecology, Systems engineers, and Systems theory.
I guess you are right you could distinguish the scientists from the engineers, and if (and I say "if") you want to do so this should be made clear in the introduction. This would make this list complementary to the List of systems engineers which at the moment is not the case.
I started this list to get and give a first impression of all systems scientists, and I guess I wanted to include the most notable scientists in the field, with a short description of their mayor accomplishments. But I didn't finish this work. Now I am open for new suggestions. -- Mdd (talk) 18:12, 28 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
