This is a list of states/polities in the year 1. This is not a list of current countries and what the population of their territory was in that year (i.e. the population of Germany (1871 borders) in the year 1). Though there is a lot of information on that subject, it is not the purpose of this list. Instead, this covers entities that existed at that time: the Roman Empire, the Han Chinese Empire, the Parthian Empire, the Kingdom of Armenia, the South Indian city-states, etc.
According to Maddison, there are estimated to have been around 4,000,000 people living on the Iranian Plateau in the year 1. I believe it is assumed that the population of the Parthian empire was larger than this. The area of Iraq alone was highly populated. So, if you can find more information, that would be appreciated. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jlr3001 (talk • contribs) 15:10, 6 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
