What happened to WV 10A? I recall seeing a stub article on it a while back, but no mention now, it appears. 147.70.242.40 00:19, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
- Thank you; I forgot to add it when I made the new list. There are other missing suffixed and bannered routes, but none of them currently have articles. --NE2 00:23, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
Patterns
[edit]There were definitely some patterns in the initial assignment of routes in the 1920s:
- 14 16 18 arcing southeasterly from the Ohio River; 20 seems to have been 55 though
- 17 19 on opposite sides of the Kanawha River
- 25 27 29 east-west in the Northern Panhandle
- 49 east-west in the Eastern Panhandle
- 50 52 north-south in the Eastern Panhandle

Piping links
[edit]Does anyone object if I pipe the links to the "WV Route" style? --NE2 22:46, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
- No objections here. Seicer (talk) (contribs) 00:56, 29 October 2006 (UTC)
Requested move
[edit]Primary state highways does not conform to WVDOH usage and came about from an apparent misunderstanding of the WV county route system. State routes is the preferred term on WV Highway Map and by WVDOH when road is not just referred to as WV xx. Brian Powell (talk) 06:21, 13 April 2008 (UTC)
wv 27 alt
[edit]why is this not on list but i see it on maps? goodguy007 (talk) —Preceding undated comment was added at 20:23, 6 December 2008 (UTC).
- WV 27 Alternate does definitely exist in the Northern Panhandle. The great thing about Wikipedia is that if something is wrong or missing, you can fix it yourself. Brian Powell (talk) 21:25, 6 December 2008 (UTC)
WV 79
[edit]Where was WV 79 before I-79 came around?
- It was in Boone County running from Madison to Whitesville. It shows up on the State Road Commission's 1933 and 1946 county maps for Boone County. It started at US 119 (now WV 17) in Madison and followed what is now WV 85 out to near Van, then CR 26 to Browns Branch, a road that followed Browns Branch, Big Jarrells Creek, and Elk Run into Blue Pennant, and then current CR 3/15 to WV 3 near Whitesville. The route between CR 26 and the end of CR 3/15 is no longer a public road. Bitmapped (talk) 01:54, 10 May 2016 (UTC)
Thanks!!!

- WV 260- Old WV 2 Huntington to Merrick Creek Rd; WV 2 will be rerouted on a new freeway and end east of Huntington, and the old route will be renumbered WV 260
- WV 301- proposed from WV 10 in Salt Rock northeast via CR 31, CR 47 and CR 25 to US 60 in Milton

- WV 701- proposed from WV 20 in Pine Grove to WV 7 in Wileyville via CR 15 and CR 17
- WV 703- proposed from WV 7 in Wadestown crossing WV 218 in Fairview to US 19 in Rivesville via CR 11, CR 15, and CR 17
- WV 922- proposed from US 119 to WV 92 in Reedsville via CR 119/13, CR 33, and CR 29
- Also, WV 954 is shown on 2004 and 2014 county maps from WV 28 in Short Gap west and north via Orchard Street; it is probably an error.

- The "decommissioned" routes never actually existed. Same goes for WV 154. Bitmapped (talk) 00:58, 2 September 2024 (UTC)
Route Dates Sources
[edit]Hi all! What's the general consensus/policy on sources for dates, destinations, and any mileage for now-decommissioned routes listed here? I ask because David Rumsey's collection of maps includes a few very early road atlases of West Virginia that pre-date the US Route system/1926 or that still have the pre-1926 state route numbers present. While these maps aren't as precise as DOH maps would be, it's fairly evident for some former state routes what the end points were. I don't want to go through and fill the ones I can tell out, though, without checking if using these third-party maps as sources violates any rules or norms for lists like this one. Thanks in advance! --TheRedheadTed (talk) 02:10, 25 July 2024 (UTC)
- Include the maps you're listing as cited sources and go ahead with what appears to be the most likely location. The WV State Archives does have statewide 1922 and 1925 maps available, but I'm not aware of any county-level WV State Road Commission maps prior to 1933 when the state took over the county road systems.
