Italics in Class column

Why are some entries in the Class column in italics and others not? 203.48.66.138 (talk) 08:07, 26 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Because not all ship class names are italicised. Style guidelines (such as Wikipedia's own Manual of Style guidelines for ship-related articles) state that classes are only italicised where the class name is taken from/shared with the first ship of the class: ship names are generally italicised, and the convention is copied over when the name is reused for the class. In other cases, where the class name is descriptive (i.e. River class frigates are named after rivers, instead of a HMAS River) or part of a letter-number sequence (the E class submarines came after the D class) the class name is not italicised. -- saberwyn 01:39, 27 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Spelling - auxillary or auxiliary

When making another change in this article, Wikipedia suggested correcting the spelling of the word auxillary to auxiliary in this article. I declined, as I wondered if this spelling variation – which is usually regarded as incorrect – was used deliberately. Having followed a few links related to this spelling, it appears that at least some of the target articles use the generally accepted spelling auxiliary. Given this fact, I am now inclined to correct the spelling of this word in this article, unless other editors can provide strong reasons why I should not. Please can you offer your opinions. Leased ships

I was wondering whether there should be a sub heading of ships leased by the RAN, seeing as number of ships have been leased recently. Newm30 (talk) 09:38, 2 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
