Sorting format proposed

[edit]

I just created a table which sorts scandals in different ways - by name, year, location, players, and with a summary. Right now it only includes scandals which have their own Wikipedia articles. I think that a tool this would be a great start in sorting the large amount of information on this page into something more understandable. Right now, the entries are only sorted by year, but I think also that sorting by location and persons involved would be useful. There is currently a discussion happening at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of politicians in India charged with corruption to delete the list which ties people to accusations, and I think that list should be deleted because it is not fair to tie individuals to to criminal charges when they are presumed innocent. However, I think that it is fair to say that particular people are key players in certain scandals. For example, Kapil Sibal, Mulayam Singh Yadav, Mayawati all investigated corruption in the Uttar Pradesh food grain scam. Their investigations are a critical part of that article and that event is a critical part of their biographies.

I propose that when a scandal has its own article and it names some people, and when that same scandal has a mention in a person's biography, then the scandal and those people go on this list. Most of the references for this list should be in either the biography or the scandal article, but an overview reference could be in the summary of the table.

How do other people feel about this table, and especially how does everyone feel about naming individuals, organizations, or government offices and associating them with a scam whether they may be accused, accusing, investigating, or whatever other kind of involvement? I just noticed this now (I've had the page on my watchlist, but don't actively check it as often as I should). I think the table is good, but either the entire article needs to be in the table, or none of it needs to be. The majority of entries on the list have Wikipedia articles, so they should be added there as well. In fact, we might want to go so far as to remove everything on the list without WP articles, per WP:UNDUE. That is, if all we know about a scandal is that there was one or two newspaper articles about it, maybe it's not important enough for this list. Qwyrxian (talk) 23:58, 18 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I just moved some articles from their listing by date to the section by name, but I did not sort them into the table yet. What do you think about the format of the table? What do you think about including the names of people associated with the scams? I am not yet sure how I feel about deleting all other scams named. Many of them could be made into stubs. I agree that having the table and having a list does not look go, and I wish that all of the article was one way or another, but this is a lot of work and potentially controversial. Despite not being aesthetically pleasing, I think the current arbitrary division between scams with articles and scams without is more useful for people who want to learn about scams. Thoughts? Descriptions of scam

[edit]

This list is a bulleted list and not a descriptive list. Some scandals are mentioned with description while others are not. I think that there should be uniformity in the list and the descriptions should be removed as all of them have their separate wikipedia pages.

The format could be such

<Year> <Name of the article>

Xoocit (talk) 18:52, 8 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Xoocit. I was looking at this article and thinking the same. The list of scandals all have their own articles and so to make this article uniform, the descriptions should be removed. That will also solve the problem of the WP:OVERCITE of references on some of the scandals mentioned. MohReddy (talk) 21:24, 1 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Xoocit: what do you think, do you agree with me ? We should also keep or add a reference for each of the scandals, just to make sure this article does have references. MohReddy (talk) 20:52, 2 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I have removed the smaller descriptions. I will wait for a response before removing the larger descriptions. If I do not receive a response soon, I will still go ahead with it and remove the larger descriptions. This will make the article more uniform and make it a proper bulleted list of scandals, which is what the article should be. MohReddy (talk) 09:42, 4 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I do not want to move ahead without an agreement or consensus on this page about removing the larger descriptions since it is a sizeable edit to this article. MohReddy (talk) 18:44, 5 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
