Super Best Friends

[edit]

I think the super best friends should be added to the supporting characters, Jesus, Buddha, Moses, Joseph Smith, Krishna, Lao Tzu, Muhammad and Sea Man. I believe Moses and Jesus are already on there. What do you guys think? Jakeyeung (talk) 22:33, 24 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, esp as they have appeared in group form in at least two episodes.--TimothyJacobson (talk) 18:51, 19 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Loogie

[edit]

Loogie doesn't wear a zoot suit. It's a stereotypical but standard pin-stripe. Somebody edit it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.252.156.11 (talk) 23:36, 9 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I agree and have made that edit--TimothyJacobson (talk) 18:51, 19 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Skeeter

[edit]

I added skeeter, the red-neck with the red hair, one of the townspersons who always seems to lead campaigns like in Free Hat, Sexual Harrasment Panda, A little bit of country and others. Can anyone find a picture of him? I can't seem to.

One-off Characters

[edit]

To tidy this page up, I have created a new page comprised of one-off characters, moving many characters from this page. Please help by adding to it: List_of_one-off_characters_on_South_Park
Thanks,

"Tree-fiddy"

[edit]

I will attempt to make this as clear as possible:

Loch Ness is in Scotland, therefore so is the Loch Ness Monster. Scotland is in the UK. The UK uses the Pound Sterling, not the US Dollar. Therefore, why would the Loch Ness Monster POSSIBLY want three DOLLARS and fifty CENTS? There is no express statement that the Loch Ness Monster wants three dollars and fifty cents. Therefore, it should be concluded that a Scottish monster would want the currency used in Scotland. Face it - 'tree fiddy' means 'three fifty' IN SCOTLAND. Therefore it is three POUNDS and fifty PENCE.
Thank you,
--Naylor182 14:29, 16 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

In the episode they specifically state it to be three dollars and fifty cents. This occurs in Succubus when they're talking to the boys for the first time. Tweeks Coffee 14:24, 26 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Another thing to remember is, Thomas and Nellie probably didn't think the boys knew what "pounds and pence" are, so they labelled it in American currency so they would understand. While currency from a certain country can be worth more or less in other countries, the concept of it's value is the same anywhere, remember. Wilhelmina Will June 29th, 2007.

The ticketseller at the cinema

[edit]

He appears in more then 2 episodes, why isn't he in the list?

His name is Schlomo (Sp?), isn't it? And yes, he is in countless episodes, and the movie. --MasterA113 03:35, 9 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

New Page

[edit]

I agree with Mr. Garrison regarding minor characters. Thus, should we create a separate page for the one-episode characters (i.e. Blanket, Ms. Stephenson, etc.), and leave all the characters that have recurred on this page? It would save a lot of space and make the article look more tidy.
Yay or nay?

--Naylor182 13:23, 29 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe a page for memorable one-off characters would work. Like on the Simpsons page. Good idea. Are you in the South Park WikiProject? If you are put it on the project's talk page.

Indeed I am! :D --Naylor182 17:18, 7 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Cleanup

[edit]

This article needs cleanup for several reasons:

I'll take a more thorough look later. -- Selmo (talk) 23:59, 6 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Furthermore, the sections aren't even in alphabetical order... —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Naylor182 (talkcontribs) 15:44, 2 February 2007 (UTC).[reply]

The character merges

[edit]

Starvin' Marvin is somewhat of a minor character, but he is notable. I'm unsure about him. Skyler can be merged. --BLuToRsE 21:04, 11 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Marvin is in at least two episodes and is a major character within those episodes--TimothyJacobson (talk) 18:51, 19 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Who should be on this page?

[edit]

Which characters should exactly be on this page? Would it be better to just put them on the adult or children pages instead of mixing them here? I don't really know. Nemu 20:49, 29 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think the page should be for all minor characters.
What about the crab people? Apparently they used to be here cause there's a link to crab people which just leads here from the Kyle Broflowski page. Dan Guan 18:20, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Minor or not?

[edit]

It has come to my attention recently that people are just adding any character. The point is that to be a minor character I believe they should have appeared two-four times. If they've only been in one episode, don't include them because they're just one-off characters. Or we could list them with just a link to the episode they appeared. Here's an example:

Ms. Stephenson

[edit]

See Miss Teacher Bangs a Boy.

I concur.--Orthologist 13:10, 22 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Moses

[edit]

Didnt moses appear in two episodes?

Mr. Garrison

Censoring?

[edit]

I think it looks kind of strange censoring swear words on Wikipedia... At one point in this article, namely the section about "Halfy", the author has censored two words, including the word "slut" in the episode name "Cartman's mom is a slut" - and I quote: "He was in "Cartman's Mom is a Dirty ####", being the only one who hadn't had sex with Mrs. Cartman to which the Mr. Garison replied "You don't count, Halfy; you don't have any legs". He also appeared in "Chickenlover" in which he said he'd #### chickens."

Is this really necessary? mikaPELL 01:37, 29 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I see this is now fixed, thanks. mikaPELL 09:09, 5 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Cleanup

I cleaned up a good chunk of the article tonight, and if nobody has any objections, I'll finish tomorrow. --MasterA113 04:25, 9 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

NPOV

[edit]

I think the section about Mr.Derp is entirely POV. Just because he's whimsical doesn't mean he's stupid. What does everybody think? --Orthologist 20:52, 12 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Farmer from Pet Sematary

[edit]

He's appeared in three episodes now, does anyone know his name so he can be added to the list? Markcookney 23:46, 11 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Scott Tenorman

Fair use rationale for Image:617 image 014.jpg

[edit]

Image:617 image 014.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Alphabetization.

[edit]

I hope everyone appreciates the alphabetizing, in my effort to tidy the page up. I'm also the one who created Loogie's caption.

Some stuff

[edit]

Uh, here are some stuff I'd like to propose:
-One-time characters such as Bradley, Josh, Thomas, and Ugly Bob should be removed. If someone can prove if they appear in the background of other episodes (such as a school or Canadian setting), that'd be nice.
-Loogie should be moved to the background character section of the student article, considering he is seen running out of the school fire in Butt Out.
-Farmer Carl Denkins should be moved to the "other townsfolk" article, even if he does live out-of-town. (Mephesto seems to live outside, too, yet he's in that article.)
-How about the Super Best Friends? Joseph Smith does appear again All About Mormons, and most of them appear in Imaginationland. But then again I don't think cameos should count as true appearances.

The image Image:Ep 109 starvinmarvin.gif is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for the use in this article.
  • That this article is linked to from the image description page.

Fair use image removal

[edit]

Disputes not withstanding, the indiscriminate use of fair use images in list articles such as this one is not supported. For the supporting policy, see WP:NFCC. For supporting guideline, see Wikipedia:NFC#Non-free_image_use_in_list_articles. See similar discussion at Talk:Supporting_Harry_Potter_characters#Overuse_of_fair_use_images and Talk:List_of_James_Bond_henchmen_in_Die_Another_Day#Fair_use_image_removal (and observe that fair use images remain removed or tightly limited on those two articles). --Hammersoft (talk) 17:52, 22 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Cameo appearences?

[edit]

Should we include a mention of characters that, while minor or even one-time, do appear in the backgrounds of episodes? For instance, I believe it was in the episode I'm A Little Bit Country during the big gathering at the end where they say it's been a great 100 episodes, that you can see many characters from previous seasons, including Sally_Struthers as she appeared in Starvin'_Marvin_(South_Park) (1997). --Dakmordian —Preceding undated comment added 03:32, 14 May 2009 (UTC).[reply]

Merge proposals

[edit]

I come with this proposal to merge the following characters into this page:

This is basically because, as many other characters that have already been merged, this characters lack Notability outside South Park and only serve to make the real Jesus, Hussein and Satan more notable with their depictions in the series. There are no sections with real world content showing how these characters have impact in popular culture or getting coverage by a vast amount of reliable secondary sources. Apart from the episode appearances lists, which violate WP:PLOT and WP:WAF, the rest can entirely be merged in here, so no much content would be lost. Thoughts? --LoЯd ۞pεth 04:50, 2 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Agree, though on second thought, maybe Jesus could be merged with List of South Park residents instead since he was first depicted as living in a house in South Park, and I would disagree that he is "minor" since there is a lot of real world info pertaining to his character as portrayed solely within the SP universe (see South Park controversies). I would also propose several characters on this list be removed (see below). Good work on getting these lists and articles better organized! - SoSaysChappy (talk) 17:40, 2 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed removal of content

[edit]
  • Chris Peterson - Remove. Background character.
  • Darryl Weathers - Keep. He is sometimes the personification of the show's spoof of conservative viewpoints, some potential for real world info here.
  • Farmer Carl Denkins - Remove. Background character.
  • Fluffy - Remove. Prop character.
  • God - Keep. RW info potential based on his odd portrayal.
  • Halfy - Remove. Prop character.
  • Loogie - Keep. Info about how Richard Belzer was unavailable to record a few of the character's lines gives the reader a good perspective of how the production of an episode has become a hectic one-week process.
  • ManBearPig - Remove. Made one very brief appearance, and not necessary to include this section in order to leave commentary on Al Gore intact (see discussion. The article about the eponymous episode is enough.
  • Mexican workers - Remove. Background characters in two episodes.
  • Moses - Keep. RW info is out there describing the show's portrayal of his character.
  • Mr. Kitty - Remove. Prop character.
  • Sally Struthers - Remove per the same reasons as ManBearPig.
  • Santa - Keep. After all, character appeared in the short which started this whole thing.
  • Scott the Dick - Remove. Only minor roles in two episodes.
  • Scuzzlebutt - Remove and redirect to "Volcano".
  • Skyler- Remove per the same reasons as Scott the Dick.
  • Sparky the Dog - Keep. RW info regarding both gay community's reaction to the episode and George Clooney/show's early trend of having big name stars lending their voice to characters who don't even speak (if not keep, at least redirect to "Big Gay Al's Big Gay Boat Ride".
  • Starvin' Marvin - Remove per the same reason as Scuzzlebutt read below
  • Tom Pusslicker - Remove, unless some RW info can be found about the show's commentary on news reporting.
  • Woodland Christmas Critters - Remove. Minor characters from only two episodes.

Yes, all of these characters have been seen more than once, so if they must be kept, simply group the most minor ones of all in one paragraph as "other minor recurring characters" (or something to that extent) rather than giving too much of a detailed crufty overview/section to each of them. -SoSaysChappy (talk) 17:44, 2 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Take a look at List of students at South Park Elementary, the one SP-related "list" article that has received some editorial attention lately. It is a fairly sufficient overview of the kid characters (ones who mandate an entry per Wiki standards) and is currently about 40 kb long. Once (if) the characters who have their own articles are merged into a respective list, and then those lists are edited to weed out all the excess POV, OR, and in-universe cruft details, I believe four lists (families, students, school staff, supporting) could encompass everybody. So if I follow you correctly (merging both "residents" and "minor characters" into a new List of supporting characters on South Park article), I would definitely support such a proposal. - SoSaysChappy (talk) 00:41, 3 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A week has passed and no opposition has come, therefore the mergers are going to be performed. --LoЯd ۞pεth 01:50, 8 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I would say so. As for the amount of coverage, I'm not sure... I'd lean towards a paragraph summarizing the wealth of relevant information that's in the episode article, then include a main article wikilink with it. - SoSaysChappy (talk) 01:22, 22 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I gave two ideally exclusive options; which one would you say is so? Powers T 23:53, 22 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Include some information about the character in this article, and keep the link in the episode article. In the new Starvin Marvin' section in this article, I would also include a link that reciprocally goes back to the episode article. - SoSaysChappy (talk) 00:57, 23 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Comment removal of Mexican workers. They were supporting characters in two episodes, with speaking parts, not "background" ones. Nightscream (talk) 15:10, 23 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Opposition in favor of Scott the Dick. At the time the decision to remove him was reached (08 July, 2009, by LoЯd ۞pεth), he only had two appearances. However, his role in Not Without My Anus is central to the episode's plot. Since that time Scott has made appearances, including It's Christmas in Canada, and Royal Pudding, during the latter of which it is revealed that Scott is now a "giant dick" because of a nuclear accident, after which he joins Ike and Ugly Bob in their quest. Therefore, I feel that Scott the Dick's entry in this article is not questionable, it's required. I also fail to understand why Ugly Bob was allowed to remain in the article despite being an even less important character than Scott, yet it was proposed to remove Scott rather than Ugly Bob.
I propose re-adding Scott the Dick. Christopher, Salem, OR (talk) 03:01, 2 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: Welcome and thanks for wanting to improve this article. When you use the editsemiprotected template, you need to be specific about the changes you want made. A 'Please change X to Y' or 'Please insert Y after Z' level of detail makes it easier for the volunteers servicing the request, who are probably not familiar with the article, to understand the request and act on it. Also, for factual changes like yours, Wikipedia requires a reference to some reliable source which can be cited in the article and used to verify the facts. "I'm relatively sure" is called original research and is not allowed here. If you search around some, you may be able to find some reliable sources that agree with you and then you can add it here. Alternately, you can leave off the template and see if the thought triggers a discussion here that results in a change to the article. Either way, welcome and enjoy, Celestra (talk) 15:54, 27 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Simple, minor correction on Towelie as the "worst character ever" delivered by Kyle, NOT Cartman. Please re-watch and correct accordingly. Regards —Preceding unsigned comment added by Cousycat (talkcontribs) 05:42, 18 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Just rewatched the scene. It was Cartman. And please sign your posts. Nightscream (talk) 12:01, 18 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Under Towelie the author writes, "Towelie also claims that his name is spelled "Towelyey" which is the only time that he actually spells his own name in the series", but in the episode A Million Little Fibers he types his name as "Toweleeeie" at 1:38 on the video I'm currently watching.

  • Also regarding this, Towelie is high when spelling is name Towelyey, so I interpret that as not a "claim" that this is how it is spelt, but just how it comes out of his mouth. I have temporarily removed the relevent sentence from the article--TimothyJacobson (talk) 11:51, 10 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Appearances

[edit]

I can see that this article has been undergoing a lot of heavy maintenance for a long time, but here is a suggestion--People have complained that there is a lot of superfluous information; would it perhaps be valuable to replace the fictional-biographical information with verifiable facts regarding the show? For instance, how about mentioning for each character when their first and last appearance was, who voiced the character, and then a quick summary of the character's contributions to the stories?Chalkieperfect (talk) 03:41, 26 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Breach of POV by calling Mohammed a prophet

[edit]

This needs to be fixed —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.21.153.237 (talk) 20:12, 27 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It is not POV, it's how he's generally identified. "Prophet" simply means that he is regarded as one by those adherents most closely associated with him. It's not implied to be fact by the article. Nightscream (talk) 20:52, 27 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Mechanic: parody of Pet Sematary?

[edit]

The "mechanic" character who appears in several episodes is based on Fred Gwynne's portrayal of the character Jud Crandall from the 1989 film adaptation of Stephen King's Pet Sematary. HazelGod (talk) 16:10, 23 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

So, having thoroughly searched for any authoritative source, it seems this is the best I can come up with: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oqu0ogtqlQs .
Mechanic is a fairly obvious parody of Judd Crandall, and if this doesn't qualify as a supporting citation, I don't know what would. GrahamNoyes (talk) 17:23, 28 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Please see WP:Identifying Reliable Sources, WP:No Original Research and WP:SYNTH. An anonymous YouTube user is not a reliable source. Reliable sources must be those recognized as an authority in the field in question. Anyone can create a video on YouTube, but to assert intent on the part of the show's creators, we need a source establishing that explicitly, such as an interview with them. Although it seems obvious (and I agree it may be frustrating to be unable to mention these things when we see them without a published source), what seems obvious to us constitutes original research, which is not permitted. See this discussion on Jimmy Wales' Talk Page for more on how WP:V applies to satire and parody. Nightscream (talk) 19:48, 28 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Tuong Lu Kim

[edit]

"..pronouncing R's instead of L's."

This links to an article on Engrish, which would be appropriate if it was specifically discussing the type of humour used with Kim's speech. The correct term for pronouncing Rs in the place of Ls (also, note the lack of inappropriate commas) is actually called rhotacization. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 110.174.121.226 (talk) 03:44, 31 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Mephisto/Mephesto

[edit]

The official site lists his name as Mephesto, and series co-creator Trey Parker's scripts universally use Mephesto, however Comedy Central seems to prefer Mephisto. How would this fall in with Wikipedia's rules? I feel it would be better to go with Trey Parker's wishes, but I know Wikipedia's rules may favor Comedy Central over the show's creators. --JohnVMaster (talk) 08:36, 21 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Request for very minor change

[edit]

The section titled "Dr. Alphonse Mephesto and Kevin" dedicates two paragraphs to the Doctor, then another one to his companion Kevin, and then a little additional one describing the plot of a double episode, with some relation to Dr. Mephesto -although not adding anything about the character's personality- and no reference to Kevin. There is extensive information regarding that double episode in at least two Wikipedia articles. I therefore suggest that the last paragraph of the section is removed, or at least moved up before the one that precedes it, since it does not even mention Kevin. Best regards. 80.103.76.80 (talk) 10:21, 14 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Saddam Hussein

[edit]

i can't figure out what the following bolded section of text is saying.

Saddam Hussein's body is made in the usual South Park style (resembling construction paper), but his head is a photograph cutout, a technique also used with appearance by Mel Gibson and Ben Affleck. Saddam is also notable for having a "Canadian-style" head; that is, his head is cut into two pieces, which come apart when he talks, instead of having a conventionally articulated mouth. However Saddam's head animation has retained this quality in other appearances, unlike any other non-Canadian. He also uses /uː/ in place of /aʊ/ (as Canadians are often perceived to do with "aboot" in place of "about" in South Park).

i haven't watched the show in a couple years, and it's been even longer since i've seen an episode with saddam. i think it's the word "However" that's throwing me off..

Saddam's head animation has retained this quality in other appearances, unlike any other non-Canadian.

makes more sense. maybe. does saddam have a "canadian-style" head in every appearance? and is he the only non-canadian on the show to have a "canadian-style" head? is that what the original text is trying to say? ≈Sensorsweep (talk) 02:55, 11 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
