KXXT Buyout

[edit]

KXXT Progressive talk radio Air America affiliate was apparently bought by a Christian radio financier around Jan 2006, even though Phoenix Arizona already had multiple Christian radio stations, and KXXT was making a profit with Air America and not in financial difficulty. Some have alleged a right wing conspiracy to silence Air America by buying out stations like this. This topic deserves some attention in this or another article.

[1] "Background: In October of 2005, James Crystal Enterprises sold KXXT in Phoenix to Communicom Broadcasting, owned by Rich Kylberg of Denver, Colorado. A format change to the station, an Air America affiliate was rumored, but not confirmed. CCA (Communicom Co. of America) has previously owned many Christian stations. I did some cursory research on Mr. Kylberg, and found an Westword article, that provides some insight on his background and life in Denver. He actually appears to be progressive and humanitarian in his approach to his community. In fact, I found that he has contributed to a Democrat's election in 2002. Perhaps appeals could make a difference? Some facts: Check out these Arbitron ratings for Phoenix radio stations. We are the 15th largest market in the nation and KXXT is the 3rd rated local talk station (if I'm reading this list correctly), out of the top 25 local station listed. In the 6th largest city in the nation, that's a huge share for a station that just celebrated it's first birthday. Phoenix already has at least 8 Christian radio stations. Does it really need one more?"

An update: Air America returned to the air on 1480 KPHX, owned by Continental Broadcasting, at the beginning of April.

KPHX 1480 went off air in June 30-July 1, 2017. It is unclear whether or not KPHX will return. And KXXT is now a religious station, sometimes in Spanish. Many AM and also FM stations nationwide went off the air in recent years, terrestrial radio in the age of internet streaming is slowly but surely dying out. + 67.49.89.214 (talk) 19:37, 21 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Article Request: Media in Maricopa County

[edit]

Would like to request a new article from you Phoenixians:

Media in Maricopa County is a designated market area (DMA; MSA-Metropolitan Service or Statistical Area) or media market that includes print media (newspapers and magazines) and broadcast media (radio and television) in Maricopa County, Arizona.

Can you do it? ~ WikiDon (talk) 01:27, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Outdated Listing

[edit]

I don't know how to edit the chart myself, otherwise I would have. But this chart looks really outdated. The only thing I can note is that 90.7FM is now KVIT which is run/owned by The East Valley Institute of Technology The wiki page for that is here: http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/KVIT

Hope I could be of service! I recommend someone recheck the FCC listings. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.104.176.149 (talk) 05:17, 9 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Clear Channel owned stations

[edit]

How come all the Clear Channel Communications owned stations are not listed as owned by Clear Channel (rather by their previous owners, all companies Clear Channel purchased)? Confusing when the individual articles list them as being Clear Channel stations (especially with the recent shakeup re: their Tucson stations). Aeiouna (talk) 07:21, 7 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
