List of pies

Shouldn't this page be bifurcated into sweet pies such as apple pie and savoury pies such as steak and kidney pie?ACEOREVIVED (talk) 15:46, 22 September 2011 (UTC)

One big table

I would like to join the tables to make them into one sortable table. Objections? Anna Frodesiak (talk) 17:17, 16 November 2011 (UTC)

I am happy if you sort these into one big table, although I still think the table would be easier to navigate if it were split into sweet pies and savoury pies. ACEOREVIVED (talk) 11:40, 23 November 2011 (UTC)

I did step one: the single table plan. Let's see if people like it, then perhaps split it into savory and sweet. Now it's sortable that way, though. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 03:41, 24 November 2011 (UTC)

Image size

I would like to enlarge the images to 120px like in List of sandwiches. I think it would improve the visitors' experience. Objections? Anna Frodesiak (talk) 16:01, 22 November 2011 (UTC)

Bakewell tarts

I have never regarded the Bakewell tart as a pie, and wonder whether it should be removed from this list. ACEOREVIVED (talk) 11:41, 23 November 2011 (UTC)

OK - I have just seen that the top of the article says that it is a list of "pie varieties, including tarts". Perhaps the list should be renamed, and be called "List of pies and tarts". ACEOREVIVED (talk) 22:25, 23 November 2011 (UTC)

Proposal for a name change

In view of the comment I made above, can I please, PLEASE propose that the title of this article gets changed to "List of pies and tarts"? ACEOREVIVED (talk) 20:20, 7 December 2011 (UTC)

Hmmmmm, tricky. Tart does say that there is an overlap. I'm not sure what's best here. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 22:08, 7 December 2011 (UTC)
I agree, if tarts are included then the article should be list of pies and tarts otherwise tarts should not appear Georgeryall (talk) 19:45, 9 December 2011 (UTC)

List of piesList of pies and tarts – My proposal is to rename this "List of pies and tarts" as some of the entries here are not pies but tarts (such as Bakewell tarts or treacle tarts). ACEOREVIVED (talk) 09:34, 8 December 2011 (UTC)

Your question "Why not list of pies, tarts and flans?" is well taken. I like it, and also like the suggested name there. So, let us propose that this list gets renamed "List of pies, tarts and flans"! ACEOREVIVED (talk) 15:39, 13 December 2011 (UTC)

Page move to new this new name

That was a bit quick. 6 days? I was waiting for more input. I was going to suggest just redirecting list of tarts and list of flans here. I'm really not sure about this new title. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 05:18, 15 December 2011 (UTC)

I agree. I'm not an expert on pies, other than eating these delicious creations, but the only time the word flan appears in this article is in the title. A flan appears to be a type of tart, and a tart is a type of pie. If this is the case, what is insufficient about List of pies as the article title, as everything on the page is a pie? Listing "pies, tarts and flans" in the title seems overly descriptive, and doesn't seem to fit with WP:CRITERIA's "precision" and "conciseness". - SudoGhost 08:26, 15 December 2011 (UTC)
Indeed. There just aren't enough flans and tarts to merit this. Plus, there's overlap in definitions. I really think List of flans and List of tarts redirect pages, and a lead sentence saying what this list includes will do fine. And, this list article appears in lots and lots of See also sections, all of which will need a double redirect fix. Can we move it back for further discussion? Anna Frodesiak (talk) 09:20, 15 December 2011 (UTC)
When the processing for the day starts, many admins, myself included don't sit there waiting for the 168 hours to tick by, we start doing the ones that are on the days list. This was closed less then 9 hours sooner then the 168 hours. Given that there where no objections, that is not unreasonable. If there were concerns, they should have been raised earlier so that the discussion could have addressed them in a timely manner. The double redirects are normally taken care of by a bot which seems to have run. Also most of the article links appear to be from the template. There are very few, only eight, other links most of those from other list articles. You can still redirect List of flans and List of tarts here, but after the name change, those redirects make more sense since the article is no longer restricted to just pies. Finally, if you want to rename again, I suggest that you do another WP:RM since I don't believe that the close was wrong and the community deserves the right to consider a reversal of the previous consensus. However if the intent was, and appears to still be, to have the list include pies, tarts and flans in one list then the current name would make the most sense. What is needed is a decision to say whether the three items will be in one list or in three lists. In this last set of comments, I don't see anyone advocating for three lists. The only identified problem seems to be that no one has added any flans or tarts to the list. Vegaswikian (talk) 19:21, 15 December 2011 (UTC)
I don't think the close was wrong. The time just seemed to go by so quickly. It's my fault for not weighing in earlier, and encouraging a more decisive discussion.
I may RM again because I can't find any flans, but there are 22 tarts. So maybe List of pies and tarts is best. It sounds good, and it's also better than two lists. Flans should be out of the picture entirely because they are fictitious, like "manatees" and "Tasmania".
Anyway, so sorry to put you through all this trouble. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 19:42, 15 December 2011 (UTC)
Other the the extra time, No trouble. Thanks. The problem with closing WP:RMs is that you generally don't make everyone happy and get a lot of complaints, some even deserved. As to not finding any flans, Quiche or Crème caramel? Did you know there is even a Flan Fest? Vegaswikian (talk) 20:34, 15 December 2011 (UTC)
  • I understand. No worries at all. :)
  • Quiche or Crème caramel, hmmmm, good point, but enough to merit inclusion of "flans" in the name?
  • A gross exaggeration. :) Two grannies and a library clerk does not a Flan Fest make. :) On the other hand, 10,000 people in Lleida all shoving snails in their faces, now that should be an article!

Is the Crème caramel really a flan? I am sure that you can get a dessert of this name with no pastry. ACEOREVIVED (talk) 10:41, 16 December 2011 (UTC)

There aren't very many flans, but quite a few tarts. What do you think? Anna Frodesiak (talk) 06:08, 19 December 2011 (UTC)

Okay. How about objections? Anna Frodesiak (talk) 00:13, 7 January 2012 (UTC)

Someone needs to monitor this. It's out of control. tomato pie? Isn't that pizza? Italian Toscana? That's a cake! Says so in the description. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jnetusil (talkcontribs) 21:15, 15 January 2012 (UTC)

I'm not convinced there is a clear enough distinction between a flan and a tart to justify the change. I think it should either stay with this name or become a list of pies Georgeryall (talk) 21:22, 11 March 2012 (UTC)

I agree. Why is Flan even on here? It's custard, and it's certainly not a sub-heading of pies/tarts/ Mathlaura (talk) 20:43, 20 March 2013 (UTC)

Pies...but cakes and everything else

This is supposed to be a list of pies. Why are there 9 cakes, a pizza and some pierogi on here? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jnetusil (talkcontribs) 21:12, 15 January 2012 (UTC)
