A page similar to this one. List of people from San Francisco, is currently under review as an article for deletion, for reasons which would apply to this article as well. I am conducting an RfC on the talk page of the above-mentioned list to determine whether the concensus agrees on keeping such lists or not. Any and all comments are more than welcome. For what little it's worth, someone has already taken on the effort of removing a name from this list here which was notable and verifiable. In fact, verification was added, possibly for the first time in the history of this list. I have been informed that lists of this kind receive three primary objections: that they are not referenced, contrary to wikipedia standards, that they give no information beyond the name itself regarding any of the individuals included, making the lists effectively redundant given the existence of the accompanying category, and that they contain only the names of those individuals who have already received their own pages, as opposed to all such notable people, whether they already have pages or not. I would note that this particular list completely fails on both the reference angle and the people who do not already have pages angle. This strikes me as being less than wise. Several lists, such as List of comic strips, serve primarily as stubs for subjects which do not yet have articles created for them. I would know, given that I was one of the primary contributors to that particular list. Also, it serves to ensure that people who are probably qualified for their own articles on the basis of notability don't receive them. In general, I think that the people who are most likely to make the effort to create such articles on people on the second- or third-teirs of notability are the people from their own area, as they are most likely to have biographical information on these people available to them and have motivation to create such pages. By eliminating these red links of individuals who are clearly at least nominally qualified for such pages, it is much less likely that they ever shall have such pages created. I would note that one red link of a person who clearly qualified as notable according to wikipedia guidelines has already been removed from this list, despite the included reference, on the same day it was first put in. As I have no particular reason to expend any effort on work which will be treated to this summary judgment, I would like to inform you all that I will confine my efforts to those other areas where such summary judgement is not so instantly rendered, which is so far everywhere else. Thankfully, it will make my task, which is admittedly one no one else has given me, a bit easier. However, I would encourage those of you who have any interest in seeing this list being even useful, and to have the potential of ever achieving feature-list status, to at least consider the comments made here. 1. You provided no explanation of the person's notability. "United States Army officer" does not sound notable to me. I have edited his description to give a bit more information about why he may have been important enough to be listed here.
2. You listed him under the wrong section. I have added him back under Nashville natives. The threshold for inclusion in the Nashville natives list is much lower than for the other sections of this article. For example, there are hundreds of musicians and politicians who could be listed on this page, but we try to keep the list manageable by including only those figures who are well known. The Nashville natives list however attempts to be more complete.

Removed people from list of criminals.

[edit]

I removed two people from the criminal listing, as they are BLPs and have not been convicted. Also it's a bit early to know if they're going to be notable in any lasting sense and worth having on the list. 137.71.220.54 (talk) 12:18, 22 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
