The Broads

[edit]

The Broads are a curious thing. Not a national park in name nor under the same legislation but with status very similar to that of a park, due to it being an inland navigation authority. should this be mentioned. GraemeLeggett (talk) 18:48, 23 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Good point. I had mentioned this in the introduction, but not in the specific entry for The Broads. I have amended this now.Kwib (talk) 23:45, 23 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Purpose of article?

[edit]

Is this really a list of the national parks on England and Wales or is it an article on the national parks of England and Wales? If the latter, which it is tending sharply towards then it is in competition with the article National_parks_of_England_and_Wales which is somewhat pointless. It does moreover contain an awful lot of tourist brochure type fluff within the text which is not encyclopaedic in nature. Though I've addressed some grammatical matters and indeed some matters of historical accuracy, I ought perhaps to have culled large sections of the article, transferring material of quality to the main article on NPs of E & W. cheers Geopersona (talk) 20:09, 3 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

My point is still valid. Why not merge the two articles? Geopersona (talk) 20:24, 3 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
My apologies for not addressing your question previously. What is it about the article that leads you to believe that it is not a list? My main thought is that the description for each entry in the list is too lengthy. I do think these are in need of reduction.Kwib (talk) 08:03, 23 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Kwib. Now, sure this page contains a list, as do many articles but the page size of this list is in fact 10% bigger than the actual article on national parks and contains a large amount of duplication. Biggish sections on 'legal designation', 'origins and growth' and 'other designations' make this much more than a list. For all of this the reader should be directed to the article National_parks_of_England_and_Wales. A list is just a list and should contain information about its subject which is most readily presented in list format, together with sufficient additional material to allow the reader to make full sense of it. The rest surely belongs elsewhere. thanks Geopersona (talk) 04:43, 24 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Before beginning this list I decided to look elsewhere on Wikipedia at similar lists to find out what a good list looked like. Many featured lists in fact contain quite substantial leads about the subject. However, in seeking to create a lead with substance I do think the list has currently the feel of an article-list hybrid as if undecided on what it should be. The same criticism is applicable to the descriptions of each park. That is not to say that I think the information isn't useful, but I do tend towards the proposal of merging relevant chunks into the main article, which in itself I think would benefit from more depth.Kwib (talk) 15:38, 24 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I think you're right. cheers Geopersona (talk) 18:28, 24 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
