@NGC 54: Correct, they don't match- this list follows the guidelines of WP:MAMMAL that we start with the species listed in Mammal Species of the World 3rd ed. (2005), and then add/remove species where both the IUCN and ASM agree. The Cottontail rabbit list does not do this; for example it has the Bogota tapeti, Sylvilagus apollinaris, but that's not in MSW or recognized by the IUCN, just ASM. So, it's not that this list is missing 8 species, it's that Cottontail rabbit has 8 species that it shouldn't. --PresN14:49, 18 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
