[edit]There's this text: "Only add names here if the person has their own article - anything else will be removed". How about if i'll add a person who has an article but the band doesn't. Just made me wonder cuz I can't see any of those on the list. Flying Saucer (talk) 21:15, 29 January 2010 (UTC)
List
[edit]"This list does not include persons who frequently share lead vocal duties with other members of a given music group (e.g. John Lennon of the Beatles)..."
How did we determine Paul was the lead singer of The Beatles with John sharing lead vocal duties instead of it being John with Paul sharing lead vocal duties?
Also, by this guideline, shouldn't Brian May and Roger Taylor have Queen taken away from their stats?Lucius Funk (talk) 21:04, 12 June 2014 (UTC)
- Paul wasn't the lead singer either. The Beatles didn't have a lead singer. Freddie Mercury was the lead singer of Queen.--Esprit15d • talk • contribs 13:42, 9 April 2018 (UTC)
Reversion
[edit]@Arjayay: Hello. I see you just reverted my edit saying I changed the criteria. I'm sure this was just a misunderstanding. I actually just copyedited the current criteria (which I actually established when I created this page) because they weren't complete sentences. I want to thank you for your vigilance in making sure the criteria is met. But at the same time, Wikipedia requires that we have a high standard of grammar. Incomplete sentences with incorrect punctuation, is not acceptable. I would prefer if you reverted your own edit, because I hate edit wars (I'm sure you do too).--Esprit15d • talk • contribs 16:41, 24 April 2020 (UTC)
- ETA: I'm also the only person, as far as I can tell, who's ever added any references to this article. Slowly, I'm going through and adding references for the artists listed here. Feel free to help as well!--Esprit15d • talk • contribs 16:43, 24 April 2020 (UTC)
- Hi Esprit15d - Thanks for starting this discussion.
I'm certainly not against proper grammar, but the way you phrased it I think (maybe that should be hope!) I may have misunderstand your intention.
The change was from:-
Only add names here if the person has their OWN article - not a redirect to their band - anything else will be removed.
to
Only add names here if the person has their OWN article. Do not link singers to their band. Anything else will be removed.
That sounds to me as if you intend to remove all the links to all the bands listed. If that is your intention, then I think it needs discussing, and agreeing, as that is not the same as all the similar musicians lists, e.g. List of lead guitarists. If that is not your intention, then I think it needs rewording as, If I misunderstood it I suspect others could as well.
Best wishes - Arjayay (talk) 17:04, 24 April 2020 (UTC)- Hi Esprit15d - that wording is a lot clearer - thanks - Arjayay (talk) 08:31, 26 April 2020 (UTC)
- Hi Esprit15d - Thanks for starting this discussion.
How about discussing an edit before simply reverting it?
[edit]@Walter Görlitz: You simply reverted my edit of lead vocalists on the basis of the artist not being notable. Well, I assume good faith on your part, but your opinion is just that, an opinion. Yes, this is a young artist, but he's accomplished a lot over the past few years. He released a debut solo album in August of 2019 that produced both a hit music video and a #1 DRT chart topper, not to mention launching a weekly broadcast during the pandemic that is now in its second season, with a total of 37 episodes. This is what causes edit wars. If you believe the artist doesn't warrant being listed as a lead vocalist, rather than just reverting someone else's work, why not discuss it here in a civilized manner? It's my understanding that WP asks us to discuss disagreements in that manner. How would you feel if someone followed behind you and simply began reverting your edits based solely on their unilateral opinion, with no other input? I don't want to start an argument with you, but we all need to respect each other. --Warriorboy85 (talk) 06:46, 18 January 2021 (UTC)
- By the way, did you revert it because I listed "The Rocky Kramer Band" as the band? He's a solo artist, whose back up band is called The Rocky Kramer Band. I'm fine with leaving it with no band listed, since he's the notable artist. Would that address your concern? I would like to reach consensus. Thank you.--Warriorboy85 (talk) 06:53, 18 January 2021 (UTC)
- The list is clear, bit the subject and the subject's bands must be, in Wikipedia's terms, not mine, notable. Since his bands do not have articles, he does not get an entry here. Walter Görlitz (talk) 07:04, 18 January 2021 (UTC)
@Walter Görlitz: First of all, thank you for the very constructive repairs to the main article for this artist. That was very thoughtful of you. I only included the name of the artist's band because that's what they call it from time to time. However, the artist is clearly a solo artist who only performs under his name. Other artists on the list have no band name listed. Are you okay with my adding him back to the list, but with no band listed, since he does have an article? Again, thank you for helping me get it right.--Warriorboy85 (talk) 07:11, 18 January 2021 (UTC)
- Actually, now that I read it closer, you're right. While there are some names there without bands listed, they are few and probably out of place. I apologize, as I was wrong. Thank you again for your help. Best to you.--Warriorboy85 (talk) 07:27, 18 January 2021 (UTC)
- Not a problem. Feel free to be WP:BOLD and either add the band names for those that do not have them or remove them. Walter Görlitz (talk) 07:37, 18 January 2021 (UTC)
